Having put together an impressive run of results over the festive period, Bristol City's four-match unbeaten streak in the Championship came to an end against Coventry City on Saturday afternoon.

The Robins' recent struggles on the road continued as they were beaten 1-0 by Frank Lampard's Sky Blues, with Brandon Thomas-Asante's second-half goal proving to be the difference between the two sides at the CBS Arena.

City should have been ahead with just a matter of minutes on the clock as both Nahki Wells and Anis Mehmeti found themselves in good scoring positions, but neither player was able to provide the finishing touch needed. Sam Bell and Yu Hirakawa also both came close in the second period, but couldn't find the much-needed leveller.

Defeat in the Midlands leaves the Reds sat ninth in the Championship, four points adrift of the play-off places. Liam Manning and his side will be keen to close that gap further when they travel to Hillsborough to face Sheffield Wednesday on Wednesday evening.

Before that, here is a full transcript of everything the Robins head coach said to the written press in his post-match press conference...

Liam it must be frustrating that today you weren’t at the level you’ve shown in the last month.

Yeah, I thought the game was a bit like that. I thought the game was quite low-quality. The pitch makes it difficult, I don't like to make excuses but they're probably a little bit more used to it and prepared for it. I thought we didn't adjust well enough in terms of unpredictable bounces, and you know, you have to sharpen your focus and take a little bit extra care on doing the basics, which we didn't do well enough.

Then ultimately when you look at it, I thought they probably had a few more chances than us, but I thought the two or three chances we had were of much higher quality. When you look at Nahki's in the first half, Belly in the second half, Anis’ opportunity really early on. We didn't take them, and ultimately they took a decent chance that they had. So really frustrating in that we should be coming away with a point.

You mentioned last week that Wolves took those chances early on and that is the difference between mid-table and the teams at the top. It did feel like you should have been ahead early on with those chances.

Yeah, you have to be clinical, you have to be ruthless, you have to take care of the final actions to make sure, and we didn't do that. I think that was probably the frustrating bit because there were the opportunities there. Even late on we were getting into decent wide areas, in behind, and down the sides, but not quite at the end of it. That's the bit you have to take extra care with. You have to compose yourself on the final actions and make sure that you execute.

It seemed that this team had turned a corner in front of goal recently. Is this a reminder that you can’t rest on your laurels in this division?

Yeah, of course, you never turn a corner. I think you're never going to complete it, right? You're never going to be perfect. So again, I think there are always going to be games where you perform well and you execute, and other games where you find it tougher.

The challenge is to get something from today, make sure that we come away and it’s 0-0, and you go, it was quite a poor game with low quality and you go away taking a point and moving forward into the next one. That's the bit that we have to do better.

It seemed quite simple for Thomas-Asante to get where he did, that has to be frustrating after producing so many big blocks in the first half particularly.

Yeah, I thought the lads did outstanding at defending the box in the first half, I thought we did a really good job of it and that's probably the bit. I think we didn't lose today because there was a lack of competing or running, that was there. Ultimately it comes down to quality and that was a bit that cost us and we probably shifted momentum in their favour a little bit too much by little cheap turnovers and bits like that, which is probably the frustrating bit. But we have to move on quickly, I think it's a good week for us, there are lots of games and we have to respond on Wednesday.

It is now six games without a win on the road, I know the home form has turned around, but is that a concern for you?

No. I want to win games. I want to win home and away, but I think priority has to be at home. You have to make sure that your home form is good, and the lads have performed really well there, and then it's about picking up as much as you can on the road. We have performed well at times away, and picked up results, so we can do it. And again I think that is the opportunity that we've got on Wednesday.

On a positive note, on Wednesday you said it might be too early to see Sinclair Armstrong and Joe Williams back, but was it good to get some minutes in their legs today?

Yeah, it was good. I think the competition is quite clear, I think that's the good thing about it, people have to deliver. Whether you're on for 90 minutes, 60 minutes, 20 minutes, 10 minutes, whatever it is, you have to grab that opportunity and help the team, and you do that by performing.

That's the bit now I think, when you look at it is about making sure that you're ready to go.

Especially because that bench is getting stronger week after week. You have some really good options to choose from now, don’t you?

Yeah, it’s good to have that headache, I think, and like I said, that puts pressure on people to step up and deliver. So, yeah, I think for me, we'll obviously assess and see where everybody is at after today and then we'll be back in working, ready to go and try to correct it on Wednesday.

And Fally Mayulu was missing today, was that just a selection decision?

Yeah.

No injury?

No.

Was the way you conceded the goal itself particularly disappointing?

Yeah, probably the manner of the turnover. We've done a lot of work this week on attacking around the outside, so to turn it over in the middle of the pitch and obviously be countered on so quickly (is disappointing). Credit to Coventry, they've invested a decent amount of money in those front two, and I thought they carried a threat throughout. They’re extremely physical, and I think they complement each other quite well. Playing into [Ellis] Simms with Thomas-Asante running off of him, I think they complement each other quite well.

Naturally, after any goal you concede, you look at what you could have done better, so it does feel like one that is slightly frustrating.
