Liverpool could be without Diogo Jota this weekend with Arne Slot revealing that the Portugal forward has a minor injury that could keep him out of the trip to Brentford. Here's everything the Reds boss had to say in his pre-match press conference.

Diogo Jota injury concern: "There is no doubt about his importance for us but he wasn't training, so we have to see today where he is. It's not sure he is available tomorrow, we'll see today. He felt a little bit when he came in, a niggle during the half-hour he came in. He finished the game but complained a bit about it. We'll see for tomorrow.

"Not because it's Jota but every player has their own program, 80 or 90 per cent is the same but every player has stuff they want to improve or to prevent a certain injury. So that is the same for all players, so there is a special program for every single player."

Title race: "I didn't even know Arsenal are playing later than us. I look at the opponent for us. If this is going to be the resistance we have every week then this is a harder league than Holland, is what I thought after my first home game. They created chances against Man City and their manager has done a great job, they have worked together for a long time. I have no other focus like when Arsenal or Chelsea plays or whoever.

"I don't think we are as much as the media are thinking about the table. We are trying to get the best out of players. These players know how long this season is and how good they have to be to win something, which is not something that happens every week. So we focus on as good session today and a good game tomorrow and only way to get a result is to work on best possible basis every day."

Van Dijk joking Liverpool in "crisis": "This season shows the strength of Premier League. Even yesterday, it was quite a surprise to see Southampton go toe to toe with Man Utd for so long. It's harder to win in the second half of the season than the first. Teams are longer together, others bring players in, and teams are fighting for Europe, titles, to stay in the league. The second half of the league is always more difficult. Brentford is an example of a team who were already strong in the first half. A very good team for a few years now. They have shown that."

Hectic fixture schedule: "If I remember, this has been the situation since we started against Brentford, that was maybe the only week we didn't have a double program. Maybe you say there are international breaks, which is true but there is no time off for players. A break in March but I know a bit better that the Dutch play Spain, so Cody, Ryan, Virgil have a tough game and you say they have a break.

"So this is the hardest league to play in. So we prepare them for this in pre-season. There are some breaks for a player like Virgil, so this is how we try to manage, but the physical output is even higher than in the first half, so they are ready for this program. They face resistance so it's not about excuses, it's always about the quality of players you face."

Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo: "It's your perception, not mine that he is struggling for confidence. He was involved in goals against Accrington and Fulham and he scored against Southampton. So for me, it's the life of a striker. Sometimes you score, sometimes you don't, and he hasn't started every week. We scored in every game except for Spurs in the cup [and Nottingham Forest at home], so that tells me we have goals in our team. Darwin will score like he has done already. I don't see him struggling that much as you see it.

"I agree that Cody is in a good place, so sometimes we agree. Luis Diaz has done well as a nine. Even before the break, it was a very good performance and afterward, Diaz played there three more games United, Spurs, Forest. We have created chances as a team and that's important. I am happy if we play Diaz if we play him as a nine or 11. Sometimes Mo scores. Last three games he's only scored a penalty. In general, we score a lot of goals and create a lot of chances."

Lack of clean sheets: "I wouldn't say it is a concern but it's not what we want. One of our strengths was keeping clean sheets earlier on. Sometimes strikers have difficulties to score and if we look at the chances we give away before and now, I don't see many differences. Forest had one serious shot on target and it was a goal, United had three and scored two, Spurs had hardly any and scored, so it is the life of a striker and the life of a defense. Palace had a big chance against Jaros and didn't score, so sometimes you're unlucky or the keeper makes a great save. When it comes to collecting points, I see a bit of a difference at the moment."

Erling Haaland contract: "Not about investments but we know how good we have to be to compete. It is not just about this club (Man City), United and Chelsea have spent an incredible amount. Some seasons, this club spends more; others some other clubs do. So that is why we all want to be here, we want to compete against the best and we are very happy. We are able to compete."

Attacking depth: "There weren't many times our subs needed to effect the game with a goal. One of things I would like us to do better is to make a late winner. A few games United, Fulham, Forest — we created chance after chance. We created three big chances against Forest and these big games.

"All other games after 75 minutes, we were leading so we didn't need to score from the bench. But the three or four games we weren't, we created chances but were unable to score. It's a small sample size to judge from. Hopefully we don't need it a lot but if we are then maybe we do score late in the game when we deserve it."

Jayden Danns: "I think you take a lot of things into account when you want to loan someone. Is it good for the player? Yes or no. Do we still need him? We have two or three for the No.9 position and we don't expect Jota to be out long. Hopefully we see him on the pitch soon, Jayden has done well when he has come in, so we have four options and we need to make the right decisions."

Brentford threats: "Some teams you play, they have one or two big strengths, Brentford press high, man v man, low block if needed, can score goals in all different ways, they score in the first seconds, so there is a lot to prepare for. Now I have to take time for this game to show them all what Brentford's strengths are, they can play five or four at the back, it's a team that has worked for years with the same manager already, he has two formations, and that is a situation when you work longer with them."

Luis Diaz latest: "I assume he is OK. He had a sore throat but I assume he will train today. We're expecting him to train."
