Mikel Arteta has given his thoughts on Arsenal's 1-0 Premier League win against Wolves. Following the midweek win over Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League, the Arsenal boss was able to name William Saliba and Myles Lewis-Skelly in his team.

There was to be no place for Martin Odegaard and Mikel Merino, though, as they missed out due to illness and a knock respectively. The Gunners did create two good chances for Kai Havertz in the first half but the German passed up two headers from Leandro Trossard crosses.

Arsenal were reduced to 10 men just prior to half-time as Lewis-Skelly was shown a straight red for a foul on Matt Doherty just outside the Wolves box. The hosts were to receive a red card themselves as Joao Gomes was given his marching orders midway through the second half for two bookable offences.

Following the midfielder's dismissal, Arsenal got the crucial winner in the 74th minute as substitute Riccardo Calafiori found the bottom corner with a low finish beyond Jose Sa to earn three big points in the title race. Here is what Arteta had to say in his time with the media:

That win must mean a lot considering the circumstances in the first half...

I'm extremely proud of the players. You can talk about our courage, you can talk about spirit and intelligence. The way they managed the game emotionally was unbelievable, especially with what we had to face and they just faced the situation and the challenge.

We went into the second half and the only message was to go out there and win the game. That's it. They did it and in a really convincing way to deserve to win the game.

What are your thoughts on the red card?

I think it's that obvious that we don't need any comments today. Hopefully the right thing will happen after today.

Did you get an explanation?

No.

From what you're saying the club is going to appeal the red card?

Well hopefully we don't need to. If we have to, it's a really good precedent with what happened with Bruno [Fernandes vs Tottenham] this season. Hopefully.

Ok we were in a position we shouldn't have been in, at least let's be in a position that we should be in for the next few weeks and allow our player to continue to do his job.

What's the kind of value when you have a result like this and you come through adversity to grind it out?

That's what they show us every single day. This season has been very special for many circumstances, a lot of them very challenging. Today we had two again with Mikel [Merino] and Martin [Odegaard] out.

Still we come here, we have to face a very difficult opponent fighting for relegation and we have another issue during in the match, but still we go about it and that's what I love about them. That's why our supporters as well celebrated and they were behind them because they can feel that.

How did you manage to challenge your anger and the players' anger into the win?

We put so much work, hours, passion and dedication into what we do that regardless of what happens and what is thrown there, you have to continue to have that desire and that will to win and overcome the situation and not throw it through the window.

It's my job, our job, to deal with certain things and unfortunately we're getting used to it.

If Myles' red card is upheld he would miss the second leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final, how unjust would that be?

Well I said I prefer not to comment on the actual thing. If we cannot change actually what happened today, hopefully at least it will be fair for the player, the team and for everybody what is going to happen in the next few weeks. That is what I'm hoping.

Does today's win tick a box in terms of mettle and fortitude?

We're ticking a lot I think this season. I'm not surprised because of the will the team has to compete to win and to again show that any context is good for us and we can adapt to that and we're going to face it.

On that I have no doubts after the result, after going away as well to make it count and today was the right one.

How often do you train with 10 men in training?

Well we play certain context of game scenarios and drills when we have overloads and underloads. We don't have time to train so the time we have to train at least we play most of the time with 11.

Unfortunately this season it has happened too many times but it's not something we have to talk about.

Riccardo Calafiori's goal was not the finish of a left-back...

Like against Man City, no? Riccy can produce these magic moments and he's done it again today to really help the team. Really glad that whoever comes on the pitch has that spirit to make things happen.
