Every word Ruben Amorim said in extraordinary Man United press conference after Brighton loss
It was another chastening afternoon for Manchester United as they slumped to defeat in their home clash with Brighton.
The visitors took the lead early on through Yankuba Minteh before Bruno Fernandes levelled the game from the penalty spot. Kaoru Mitoma put the away side back in front in the second half before an Andre Onana howler gifted Georginio Rutter the ball and the Brighton forward made no mistake to secure the three points.
Ruben Amorim spoke to journalists after the game at his post-match press conference and he was clearly unhappy with his team's performance, describing them as "the worst team maybe in the history of Manchester United".

After what was a box office press conference, here's every word from the United boss:
You've said that fans and players are going to have to suffer, can you explain what that looks like? Because a lot of people will say those players out there, that cost tens of millions of pounds, are underperforming.
"It’s hard to explain, we have to acknowledge the moment and not going around the problem. Everybody here is underperforming, no matter what the circumstances, we are underperforming and have to accept that. It’s unacceptable to lose so many games. For any Premier League club, imagine Manchester United. So it’s a really hard moment but we have to continue, we have to continue, there is no other way. We need to suffer and continue."
You said you would learn more from the Southampton game and this week in general. After two poor performances, one good result and one bad result, what have you learnt about these players?
"The opponents are better than us in many details. That we cannot be consistent, that I’m not helping my players in the moment. It’s a hard moment, you have to acknowledge that we are in a very difficult situation, with all the bad records, as losing games at home, losing games in the Premier League, we are really underperforming and we need to win games, that’s all."
You say you're not helping your players, what do you mean by that? And when you say everyone is underperforming do you consider yourself in that?
"I knew that was going to be hard to put a completely new idea in the moment but when you lose games and don’t win three games in a row it becomes really hard. So that’s why I’m telling we are going to suffer because I will continue to do the same. To help my players is to give them the tools to play in this way but then without training is really hard, then without training and losing games, you can feel it in the end of the game, everybody was changing position and that is something I will not see again.
"We can lose, but we have to maintain position. If I want to show to the media or to the fans, I put two strikers but I didn’t put two strikers because if I do it’s going to be more difficult for them to understand the way we play. I am just here to help my players but we need to understand we are breaking all the bad records. It’s a proud thing we need to change."
You've said the opposition have been better in a lot of games you've played this season, that's going to be difficult for fans to hear a Manchester United head coach say.
"In ten games in Premier League, we won two. I know that, imagine what this is for a fan of Manchester United, imagine what this is for me. We are getting a new coach who is losing more than the last coach. I have full knowledge of that. I am not going to change, no matter what.
"I know we can succeed but we need to survive this moment. I am not naive. We need to survive now. We are the worst team maybe in the history of Manchester United. I know you want headlines but I am saying that because we have to acknowledge that and to change that. Here you go: your headlines."
Marcus Rashford is one of the best forwards here, do you feel disappointed or let down that you're not in a position to be able to bring him on?
"No, no, no. It is his choice. I don’t want to focus this bad moment because in this games we lost, Rashford is not here. Rashford is out of this moment. I am not going to put a player I don’t believe is the best for the team."
These are very good players who are struggling to take on your idea, how difficult can it be?
"They are used to different things and then sometimes you have one team that almost win the league and then the next season is really bad without confidence. Our players are really nervous. If I feel it the players feel it a lot. The only way is to continue to win games."
You've spoken a lot about physicality and for most of the game Brighton were quicker to the seconds balls. How do you build the physicality in the team right now?
"First of all is training then we need to have to be prepared to suffer. It is the only way and then we have to feel the way we felt that feeling against Liverpool, losing, losing, losing, losing and then something appears to the players. I think in the training ground is the past way to feel that"
On the first goal: obviously it's a new system, you've not had much time on the training ground but that didn't look like anything to do with system, it was just a complete absence of concentration at the start of the game. Do you agree with that?
"We need to be really focused on the game. Sometimes I feel the team is focused on a lot but it is a simple play. If there is one thing Brighton does it is to push the centre back and then the winger makes the moment and we knew that so I don't want to point to that specific thing, it's everything. The only way is to work hard to win games, to have time to change things around."
Onana was terrific on Thursday but it was another lapse for the third goal. Is it a concern that you're seeing these individual lapses?
"It is like the team, ups and downs, really ups and really low downs. We have to maintain the focus during the game to try and win games, that is the only way we can turn things around."
