SAM Burgess believes the Round Two victory over Catalans Dragons was just reward for the effort they put into the game.

And as they now head to Las Vegas for their historic Round Three clash with Wigan Warriors, they do so with the maximum of four points in the bag.

Danny Walker and Matt Dufty touched down in the second half to earn The Wire a hard-fought 18-12 win at the temporarily-renamed "Luke Littler Stadium" - so called to celebrate the world darts champion's homecoming event.

Toby King was also among the scorers as Warrington kept up their perfect start to the season.

Here is everything Burgess had to say about the game in his post-match press conference...

Q: On a night of celebration for the town, you must be happy your boys did their bit?

SB: I’m glad we got the two points for the reasons you mentioned.

It’s great having Luke at the game – he comes often anyway but it’s nice to celebrate his achievements and what he’s brought to Warrington.

He’s a great young lad who’s gone after his goals, and he’s done it with a smile on his face and a bit of energy.

It’s great to recognise that and it’s a good night for the community to celebrate, so it’s nice for us to get the two points on the back of it.

Q: What do you think got you over the line in the end as it was a pretty even, well-contested game?

SB: It was a really tough game – Catalans played a very tough, physical game and they challenged us a lot.

They threw a lot of things at us that we hadn’t had a look at us – they had a lot of offloads and that challenged us, but I was really proud of my team’s effort.

They never stopped trying or turning up for each other. We figured that out last year so I’m glad that’s continued on into this year it seems.

I’m happy they got their reward at the end of it – those tight games can go either way so I’m glad it went ours.

Q: We know what comes next – you get on the plane to Vegas with two wins from two. What sort of place do you feel like you’re in heading over there?

SB: It’s the best place for us to be in right now, so I’m happy with that. It’s much nicer turning up in the morning knowing we’ve got two points.

We try and review things in a balanced way, whether we win or lose, but you can’t hide from the fact it’s a bit nicer when you’ve got the points.

SB: I’ve not really spoken to the medical team, but nobody had to come off for anything which is a good sign.

I’ve not had any real reports of anything.

Q: Lachlan Fitzgibbon came off towards the end so has he come through his first game okay?

SB: He wanted to finish the game and he probably could have done.

The field was pretty heavy which didn’t suit us, and he did a lot of work when he was on. The last 10 minutes are often when things can go wrong, so I tried to take that risk away.

Q: Steve McNamara had an observation that the rucks seem to be a lot slower this year. Is that something you’ve spotted?

SB: I actually enjoy the way the games are being refereed and I think we all do.

We’re seeing more of a traditional game of rugby league – that’s just my opinion.

I’d probably say the rucks are a little slower – we get the timings of the rucks and last week, our play-the-ball speed was 3.53secs so I’ll be interested to see what comes out of tonight.

A three-and-a-half second play-the-ball is pretty average – that’s probably about normal.

I do like the way the games are being reffed, apart from the kick chase penalty early on which I thought was a bit flimsy.

Q: Are you going to have a word with Matt Dufty and Jordy Crowther for the penalties they conceded?

SB: I’ve already had words with them. It’s already been addressed. It won’t be happening again.
