Former Hull FC star Scott Taylor is being tipped to go to the top of the rugby league coaching tree, with a strong admission made based on one key attribute: enthusiasm.

That’s the verdict of agent Craig Harrison, leader of the Show Me The Money agency, who fancies Taylor to make the most of his first professional coaching spell in charge of new League 1 outfit Goole Vikings, who were accepted into the competition last autumn as the sport's newest pro club.

Heading to the capital for Challenge Cup action this weekend, Taylor will now coach Goole’s first-ever professional game against London Broncos, with the former FC prop, who debuted at Hull KR and also won both the Super League and the Challenge Cup at Wigan Warriors, tipped to make a big impact.

Cutting his cloth at community club Beverley A.R.L.F.C., Taylor has runs on the board as a coach, but after viewing a session firsthand, Harrison believes the 33-year-old has the tools to go all of the way. Speaking on The Full Eighty Minutes podcast, Harrison said: "I watched Goole train ten days ago. They were fantastic.

"Scott Taylor, we can go back on this in a year’s time, will be a top-level coach. There is one word you see in good coaches—I’ve seen it in football and rugby league: enthusiasm.

"You have got to have enthusiasm. You look at Pep Guardiola, Jose Mourinho, and Wayne Bennett at nearly 80, Taylor was so enthusiastic putting his drills together. I think they could shock the world this year. I think they will be in the top four and may even go for it."

Highlighting another former Hull FC talent, Harrison is backing an 'untouchable' Jamie Shaul to hit the ground running at the Vikings. The 32-year-old, appointed the club's vice captain earlier this month, has come out of retirement to play for Taylor, having originally hung his boots up at Hull FC at the end of the 2023 season.

Harrison continued: "The one that intrigues me watching them is Jamie Shaul. He is 32, and three or four years ago, he was bordering on being in the top three or four full-backs in the country.

"He retired but came back because of his relationship with Scott Taylor. He looked red-hot, and he could score 20 or 30 tries on his own. I’m not being rude to the standard of League One, but if he is fit, then they won’t be able to touch him."
