Ex-Newcastle man misses first game for new club after car crash on way to training
Former Newcastle United defender Paul Dummett missed out on a debut at new club Carlisle on Saturday after being injured in a car crash.
Dummett, who signed for the Cumbrian League 2 outfit earlier this month after a short spell at Wigan Athletic, had to be checked over at hospital after the accident while on his way to training on Friday (January 17).
Carlisle manager Mike Williamson, and Dummett’s former NUFC teammate, confirmed the 33-year-old had not suffered any lasting damage in the accident and only suffered “cuts and bruises”.
"He's ok," Williamson said, according to reports in the News and Star.
"It was a car crash and he's had to just go and get checked over. There's nothing else that's going to be ongoing.
"We just felt as though with the situation and the day he spent [being assessed in hospital], it wasn't advisable to involve him today.
"But he will be hopefully fit and ready to go next week. He was in [on Saturday]. He saw the doc [club doctor].

"I think he's just been checked over and everything's fine. So he'll be good to go. He'll be in training on Monday and we expect him to be fit next weekend."
Dummett, who signed a short-term deal until the end of the season at Carlisle, watched from the sidelines as his new team lost 1-0 at home to Bradford City.
He left Newcastle last summer having made just five Premier League substitute appearances last season.
