Former Northern Ireland footballer Stuart Elliott was joined by his young son as he was inducted into Hull City's Hall of Fame.

The winger earned the fans' vote to become the 12th inductee into the list which was established in 2018. He joins the likes of Nick Barmby, Dean Windass and Ian Ashbee in the 'pantheon of Hull City greats'.

Elliott was formally inducted at Hull's New Year's Day match against Middlesbrough by former defender Frank Banks in front of 21,000 fans at the MKM Stadium.

The 46-year-old was joined by his son Nathan on the pitch to receive the award.

He told the club's website: “I am extremely proud. Hull City was really the pinnacle of my career. I had a good career up to the time when I came to Hull through Glentoran and Motherwell, but my time at Hull City for me, both on and off the pitch for my family, was probably the greatest time in my football career and it is a time that I will never forget.

“Right from day one, the supporters really took me to their hearts and it was mutual as well. I had a wonderful time in the city, both on and off the pitch. I love the people to this day and it was just an amazing time. It is a really proud moment for me to be inducted into the Hall of Fame, and it's one thing that I can add to the list of successes I had at Hull City.”

Elliott scored 68 goals in 211 appearances for Hull and won the club’s Player of the Year award twice. He also finished top scorer twice and played a key role in the double promotion under Peter Taylor between 2003 and 2005.

Elliott added: “It means everything to be inducted into the Hall of Fame. The reality is, it is a privilege to be in alongside the great names that are already in there. For me, it wasn't just about the success on the pitch, it was about the people of the city.

“I was part of a church there and I reached out to the people in the local area to try and help them in practical ways. Myself and my family really felt that Hull City was our home and we've always had a special affiliation from the people. Even now, I get texts coming through from people that you knew from the city and I've always kept close contact with them.

“The way the supporters welcomed me, I can honestly say success brings this, but I never really heard anything negative said about me during the whole time I was there. People really embraced me. They are just lovely, lovely people. Lovely city, a lovely club, and I'm glad to see that it's been on to have relative success even after I left.”
