Ex Rangers star John Fleck rushed to hospital after falling ill during warm up before League Two clash
Former Rangers star John Fleck has been rushed to hospital after falling ill on the pitch during a warm-up.
The ex Scotland international was stretchered off before his club Chesterfield’s League Two game with Doncaster Rovers on Thursday night. The 33-year-old was surrounded by emergency services staff around half an hour before the scheduled 7.45pm kick-off. Kick-off was delayed by 10 minutes in a game which could see Doncaster close to within four points of Walsall at the top of League Two with victory.
The nature of his illness was not disclosed by his club. A Chesterfield statement read: “We can confirm that John Fleck has been taken to hospital as a precautionary measure after being taken ill during the pre-match warm-up.”

Six minutes into the game there was another stoppage after a fan in the crowd also had to receive medical attention. There was another delay as he was helped from the stands on 12 minutes. Fleck joined Chesterfield as a free agent in September last year. He was capped five times by Scotland but has played just four games for his current club after nursing a shin injury for most of the season. He came through the Rangers ranks before turning out for Blackpool, Coventry, Sheffield United and Blackburn.
