Former Wanderer MJ Williams has signed for League Two club Barrow on a two-and-a-half-year deal.

Williams departed Bolton in the summer of 2023 to join MK Dons and went on to make more than 50 appearances at Stadium MK.

The 29-year-old has played 16 times this season and was on target in a 3-1 win against Swindon in November.

“I’m delighted to be here,” he told the club channels. “My agent got in touch with me last week, and when I heard about the interest, I was excited to come and I’m made up to get this over the line.

“Thinking back to last season, I played against Barrow twice and they were both really difficult games.

“You know that when you come to Barrow, it’s a tough place to come so I’m looking forward to being a part of the home side now, getting in front of the fans and showing them what I can do.”

Williams becomes Andy Whing’s first signing since taking charge at Holker Street, replacing Stephen Clemence in the dugout.

Clemence was sacked after a poor run of results, with the Bluebirds sitting 18th in the League Two table.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity for me and I’m really excited to be here,” Whing said after his appointment was confirmed.

“As soon as I heard about the interest, I was really excited about it and after meeting everyone and having a real warm welcome, it just feels like I’ve got a bunch of really good people which is brilliant.”

“One of the biggest things for me is trying to get that connection with the fans as it’s a massive part of it. If you look at my Banbury days and at Solihull, even my playing days, I think I had a massive connection with every club I’ve been at.”

Barrow are back in league action this weekend when they welcome ninth-place Grimsby to Holker Street.
