Newcastle United will try to offload some first-team players as the business end of the January window approaches, while also listening to loan offers for some of their best and brightest talent in the club's youth system.

Newcastle's under-21 side, led by recent appointment Diarmuid O'Carroll, have stormed up the Premier League 2 table in recent weeks, with some reserve regulars now expected to be shipped out in search of senior minutes elsewhere before the winter window comes to an end.

Travis Hernes, who has trained with Eddie Howe's first-team and featured in the post-season jaunt to Australia last year, is attracting interest closer to home with Scandinavian clubs exploring potential loan deals. The Norwegian midfielder, 19, has been eyed up by clubs in Denmark's top flight.

Meanwhile, exciting centre-back Charlie McArthur is expected to be shipped out on loan in the coming days. The former Kilmarnock defender was one of the club's first youth purchases under former sporting director Dan Ashworth and could be moved down the English football pyramid with Mike Williamson's Carlisle United one of the teams interested in a temporary deal.

The aforementioned O'Carroll has close links to St Mirren given he left his post as assistant manager at the Scottish outfit last year to take up his current role on Tyneside. It is thought other youngsters could potentially join the club, following in the footsteps of Paul Dummett who was shipped on loan there before breaking into the first-team at St James' Park.

One youngster who has already had a taste of life north of the border is Garang Kuol. The Aussie star struggled at Hearts before another ill-fated spell away in the Netherlands. The former Central Coast Mariners star has barely featured for the under-21 side this season amid ongoing injury issues, which could hamper a potential January exit.

Fellow prospect Alex Murphy is itching for some senior minutes elsewhere after struggling to build on the minutes he earned in Howe's first-team in recent seasons. Newcastle are exploring possible moves for the Irish star, 20, to give him the game time he desires elsewhere before returning in the summer.

In terms of senior outgoings, Lloyd Kelly and Miguel Almiron have both attracted interest - from Fenerbahce and Atlanta United respectively - in recent days. Howe had no update to offer after Wednesday's win over Wolves, with both situations set to develop in the coming days.
