What to expect on transfer deadline day as Middlesbrough plan for busy final day
Middlesbrough will complete loan deals on transfer deadline day that will see Kelechi Iheanacho and Samuel Iling-Junior join to bolster their attacking ranks.
Iheanacho will join from Sevilla after a difficult campaign following his exit from Leicester City in the summer. The Nigerian international will replace Emmanuel Latte Lath, who will be moving to Atlanta United in a club-record £22.5m deal.
Iling-Junior, meanwhile, is an England under-21 who will be joining from Aston Villa. He joined the Villans from Juventus in the summer but was immediately sent out on loan to Bologna where he has been unable to earn regular game-time, leading to his loan move there being cut short.

The two deals will take Boro up to six new recruits in a surprisingly busy January transfer window. Ryan Giles, Mark Travers, Morgan Whittaker and George Edmundson (making his loan move a permanent one) were already concluded. Boro will remain active and open-minded to more additions though.
In particular, they have been keen this month to sign a new right-back and centre-back, though as things stand, a lack of available options in the positions mean such deals are unlikely. They missed out on Glen Kamara after mega-rich Saudi side Al-Shabab joined the race.
Never say never on Transfer Deadline Day, but as things stand, both appear unlikely. Further complicating that is the fact that Iheanacho and Iling-Junior deals will take Boro up to five loanees this season. EFL rules permit you to register as many as you want, but you can only name five in any given match-day squad.
If something did happen on that front though, Boro have received interest in Anfernee Dijksteel and Dan Barlaser and would allow both to leave, but only if they managed to secure replacements first.
As far as more concrete outgoings are concerned, Emmanuel Latte Lath is on the verge of a move to Atlanta United and Lukas Engel is still expected to join FC Cincinnati on a loan including an option to buy. Given both are MLS moves, they aren't bound by the British deadline but particularly in the case of Latte Lath, Boro are only moving ahead with their incoming dealings because of the expectation the striker will be leaving.
Elsewhere, there remains interest from numerous clubs in taking Alex Gilbert on loan, including from League One side Charlton, who were named in a weekend report. Iling-Junior's arrival should allow Boro to send the 23-year-old out to get more game-time. Beyond that, any other exits are only likely to be youth loans.
There is also the small matter of a Tees-Wear derby on the evening too, as Sunderland visit the Riverside. You can ensure you never miss an update all day in our dedicated live transfer blog here.
