FA confirm Matheus Cunha suspension before Chelsea vs Wolves amid Arsenal transfer links
Matheus Cunha will miss Wolves' next two games after being charged with misconduct by the FA amid January transfer links to Arsenal. The Gunners are the latest Premier League club to have been linked to the Brazil international following his superb start to the season.
From 19 games played in the 2024/25 campaign, Cunha has managed 14 goal contributions and has thus very quickly become Wolves' talisman.
Earlier this month, in a huge clash against relegation rivals Ipswich, the 25-year-old found the back of the net, but headlines centred around his behaviour after the game, with cameras capturing him taking the glasses of an Ipswich member of staff. He also appeared to direct an elbow into the back of the same person.

Understandably, he was charged by the FA for misconduct and given a few days to respond, but the Christmas period saw a delay in an actual punishment being decided, which allowed him to play the next three games. He subsequently scored against Leicester and Manchester United but picked up an injury against Tottenham.
With that issue and the looming threat of a ban over his shoulders, Cunha was a major doubt for Wolves' next Premier League match against Nottingham Forest, but now he will definitely miss out with the FA confirming his suspension.
"Matheus Cunha has been suspended for two games and fined £80,000 following the Premier League fixtures between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Ipswich Town on Saturday 14 December," a statement from an FA spokesperson on X read.
"The forward was charged with misconduct and it was alleged that he acted in an improper manner after the final whistle. He admitted the charge and the sanctions were imposed by an independent regulatory commission." With the FA Cup third round taking place next weekend, Cunha will actually only miss one league game.
Given the nature of the incident, it is certainly a surprise that he was not handed a more lengthy ban and thus will be available for games against Chelsea and Arsenal in January. Alongside Manchester United, the Gunners are admirers of Cunha, but it is extremely unlikely he departs Molineux next month.
With that being said, his availability to come up against Mikel Arteta's side on January 25, 2024, could change matters. The previous weekend, Wolves travel to Stamford Bridge with Cunha in a position to feature and hope for a similar impact from last season, where he scored a hat-trick in a 4-2 win.
