Liverpool is eyeing a trip to Wembley at the end of the season after progressing to the fourth round of the FA Cup, where it will take on Championship strugglers Plymouth Argyle.

Arne Slot talked up the importance of the competition last week and named a strong side for the game against Accrington Stanley.

Diogo Jota and Trent Alexander-Arnold put the Reds ahead at the interval before Jayden Danns found the net from the bench. There was a special moment for Federico Chiesa too as he broke his duck for the club.

There were also comfortable wins for Manchester City and Chelsea on Saturday, over Salford and Morecambe respectively, while Tottenham needed extra time to see off non-league Tamworth.

But there is already a big-name casualty after Arsenal were knocked out by Manchester United on penalties at the Emirates. United was down to 10 men for over half an hour but managed to hold out until spot kicks.

Liverpool will face a trip to second-tier side Plymouth, who recently fired manager Wayne Rooney after a poor run of form. The Pilgrims did claim a scalp in the third round though by beating Brentford and will relish the visit of Arne Slot's side.

The two sides met in the third round back in 2017 where a much-changed Liverpool side was held to a goalless draw at Anfield, with a young defensive duo of Alexander-Arnold and Joe Gomez featuring. Liverpool did eventually win the replay at Home Park 1-0, as Lucas Leiva scored an early goal.
