Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler has given a transfer update as the Premier League club targets Derby County’s Eiran Cashin.

The Seagulls are said to be ramping up their efforts to sign Rams centre-back Cashin before the January transfer window deadline. The 23-year-old is understood to be keen on the move.

Cashin sparked further speculation over his future after Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at Cardiff City in the Championship as he stayed behind to clap the away support long after his teammates had returned to the dressing room.

It has been interpreted as a goodbye to Derby fans, but it is understood no deal with Brighton has been agreed.

Meanwhile, Hurzeler has been asked if Brighton are looking to sign a defender before the transfer deadline, and he said: “There are no priorities for me. For me, the most important thing is I can influence the players I have available, and try to improve them the best way we can.

"The other things we are discussing internally, we always try and that's the most important thing. What helps the club to be more successful and if it's more successful to bring a new player in then we might do it.

"If not then we don't do it, but I'm a coach and honestly I really can only influence the things on the pitch and beside the pitch, with the players who are there, and that's my job where I try to focus on.”
