Fabio Vieira makes statement, Nuno Tavares frustrated, Karl Hein humiliated - Arsenal loan latest
It's been a successful loan spell for Fabio Vieira at Porto so far, with the 24-year-old making 28 appearances for the Portuguese side this season.
With Mikel Arteta preferring others in midfield Vieira was just not going to get the required game time at Arsenal, although some may argue his presence would have helped with the injuries to the attacking department at Emirates Stadium. Still, Vieira is getting plenty of minutes at Estadio do Dragao despite playing under two managers.
Martin Anselmi joined Porto last month after taking over from Vitor Bruno, with the change impacting Vieira's position in the team, with the Arsenal loanee playing slightly deeper at times as a No.8. “I’m feeling good, we’re assimilating his ideas. It takes time to adjust certain details, but we’re improving day by day,” Vieira told O Jogo.

“I’m always looking to improve. We’ve been through some moments at the club that have affected the players and we’re getting over it and we promise that tomorrow we’ll be at our best.”
Vieira did make an impact on the pitch this week as he provided an assist for Samu Aghehowa against Roma in the Europa League on Thursday. It was not enough, though, as Porto were knocked out by the Italian side with the tie finishing 4-3 on aggregate. Vieira is in line to play against Vitória S.C. on Monday and will be hoping to help his side get a much-needed three points on the board.
Elsewhere among Arsenal's loan army, Nuno Tavares started Lazio's frustrating 0-0 draw with Venezia. The left-back played 56 minutes before he was taken off by Marco Baroni, with the result leaving Lazio in fifth place in Serie A, two points behind Juventus in fourth.
Over in Spain, it was more misery for Karl Hein as his Real Valladolid side were battered 7-1 by Athletic Club to remain bottom of La Liga with 15 points. It means the goalkeeper has conceded 61 goals in 26 appearances this season.
It was heartbreak for Marquinhos, who was a second half substitute in Cruzeiro's penalty defeat to America-MG in the Campeonato Mineiro. With the tie 2-2 after two legs, Marquinhos did not step up to take a penalty after extra-time, with his side losing the shoot-out 4-2.
Young goalkeeper Brian Okonkwo started Hitchin Town’s 1-1 home draw to St Ives Town on Saturday. It leaves the Southern League Premier Division Central side second bottom with 10 matches of the season remaining.
Reiss Nelson and Albert Sambi Lokonga did not make the Fulham and Sevilla squads respectively due to injury. Nelson has been absent since the start of December with a hamstring injury and underwent surgery earlier this month. "Life and football are all about setbacks and comebacks. This one hurts, but it’s just part of the journey. Surgery went well, I’m focused and determined to return stronger than ever," the winger said on Instagram after the operation.
Lokonka, meanwhile, has not featured for Sevilla since February 2, with the midfielder picking up a hamstring injury during a training session earlier this month. Maldini Kacurri missed Bromley's 2-0 win over Harrogate Town, with the central defender missing the League Two side's last three games.
