To say it has been an underwhelming season for Jack Harrison would be a major understatement. The Leeds United winger, currently on a season-long loan deal with Everton, has failed to provide an assist or goal in 17 Premier League outings.

Harrison has started 11 times for the Toffees in the league. He missed out on the starting line-up in Saturday's clash at Bournemouth. The wide man was an unused substitute as Everton crashed to a 1-0 defeat.

It will be interesting to see what happens with Harrison in the January transfer window. It is thought the Whites have no recall option as part of Harrison's temporary switch.

But it is conceivable Everton could cut Harrison's loan deal short, with Sean Dyche's team having reportedly opened talks with Aston Villa over signing talented forward Jaden Philogene. Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano claims Everton are exploring the possibility of signing the England Under-21 international on a permanent basis. Negotiations between the two clubs over a potential deal are under way, according to Romano.

Philogene rejoined Villa last summer following a stellar campaign with Hull City. The Premier League club paid around £13m for Philogene due to the 30 per cent sell-on clause.

"He has a potential and he didn’t show his potential in the first six months being with us," Villa boss Unai Emery said of Philogene last week. "He played some important matches, against Bayern Munich and Manchester United. At that moment he was more or less given the opportunity to show his progress. He didn’t do it clearly and was playing less, but I believe in his potential.

"It (a loan) is one option for him and the club because there are lots of clubs interested in him. They believe in his potential. We are not close [to agreeing a loan] and as a coach I am not really wanting to let him leave, but we are speaking about the different options. Maybe it could be an option [loan].

"My conversation was always to be patient, take time to improve things. The adaptation is going slower than we wanted, but still in my mind the objective is to improve and help us here. Now it is January, it could be an option for him and the squad to let him leave."
