Fantastic medal haul for Warrington AC at Cheshire Cross Country Championships
WARRINGTON Athletics Club brought home 22 medals from the Cheshire Cross Country Championships held on Saturday.
They were the most successful club at Betley Court Farm near Crewe, with five gold medals achieved by individuals and four by teams.
Emilia Gandy, Emily Kinsey, Joanna Robins, Chris Stanford and Dave Gill all got over the line first in their groupings in the cold but dry conditions.
Silver medals were earned by Sebastian Hughes, Harry Millar, Tom Welsby, Imogen Wharton, Adam Rashud and Dave Norman.
And those collecting bronze medals were Alex Farrell and Evie-May Williams.
The day started with the under 11s age group, with Hughes, second, and Farrell, third, followed in by Alfie Furnival, fifth, to seal the boys’ team gold.
The B team of Tristan Tickle, eighth, Hugo Stanford, 10th, and Alex Roberts, 16th, received the team bronze.
In the girls, Gandy, first, was followed home by Ivy Davidson, fourth, and Ettie Rashud, ninth, to collect the team silver. Edie McArthur completed the squad in 15th place.
Millar’s silver for the under 13s boys was supported by debutants Ashton Illingworth, fourth, and Arthur Agamian, 15th, as the team won gold. Eddie Walker, 20th, and Aiden Losty, 28th, completed the squad.
In the under 13 girls, Grace Rashud led the team home in 10th and with Bethany Roberts, 15th, and Lois Johnston Starrs, 23rd, the team placed fourth.
Euan Lawton led the under 15s boys team home in sixth, with Alfie Blizzard, ninth, and Thomas Darbyshire, 17th, as the team secured bronze.
Kinsey won gold in the under 15s girls, with Evie-May Williams, third, and Eva Hayes, sixth, achieving team gold. The squad was completed by Annie Noone in seventh place.
In the under 17 men’s race, Welsby’s silver, Elliot Taylor, 10th, and Harvey Howard, 14th, combined to pocked bronze.
Wharton bagged silver in the under 17s women’s race and along with Hannah Hull, fifth, and Sinead Gregory, sixth, they took the team gold. The squad was completed by Sinead’s twin Cara in ninth place.
Older sister Orla Gregory was fourth in the under 20s women’s event, with Bella Robbins sixth.
In the senior women’s race, Ellen Turnbull was the first finisher in 12th place with Bella’s mum Joanna in 18th to win the over 50s age group gold medal.
Faye Lawton completed the club’s runners in 36th, finishing eighth in the over 35s age group. Second-claim member Claire Demaine Farrell took the silver medal in the over 45s age group.
In the senior men’s race Cameron Field led the team home in fourth position, with Stanford eighth to lift the over 45 gold medal, Adam Rashud 17th to bag the over 40s silver medal, Leighton Sharman, 20th, Matthew Jenson, 23rd, and Jack Pilkington, 41st, to achieve the team silver.
The squad was completed by Norman, 62nd, over 60 silver, Steve Burthem, 83rd, and Gill, 93rd, grabbing the over 65 gold medal.
