Arne Slot made eight changes to his Liverpool side that beat Accrington Stanley in the FA Cup on Saturday. Jarell Quansah, Kostas Tsimikas and Diogo Jota were the only players to retain their starting berths as the Reds ran out 4-0 victors.

Progressing to the fourth round of the competition, Slot was pleased to hand minutes to a number of his lesser-used stars and some of the club’s young starlets.

Jayden Danns came off the bench to score his first goal of the season, while fellow substitute Federico Chiesa scored his first Liverpool goal to wrap up the win. Meanwhile, 16-year-old Rio Ngumoha became the youngest starter in Reds history after being handed his debut by Slot.

Captained by Trent Alexander-Arnold, the Liverpool vice-captain was also on the scoresheet in spectacular fashion against Accrington, and is likely to keep his place for the Reds’ top of the table clash with Nottingham Forest on Tuesday.

But with Slot likely to rotate the rest of his side, having given seven of his senior players the afternoon off altogether against Accrington, the ECHO takes a look at what changes the Dutchman could make at the City Ground…

Changes at the back

While Alexander-Arnold will likely keep his place after completing 60 minutes against Accrington, the rest of the back five will almost certainly change for the trip to Forest.

Alisson Becker will return in goal while Virgil van Dijk will captain the side. Ibrahima Konate was not in the matchday squad against Accrington after only recently returning from injury, and is first-choice to partner the Dutchman. If there was another reason behind his absence, Jarell Quansah and Wataru Endo are on standby.

Meanwhile, Andy Robertson was an unused substitute against Stanley but is likely to return in place of Kostas Tsimikas if Slot makes a change at left-back.

Szoboszlai selection dilemma

Dominik Szoboszlai completed 45 minutes against Accrington after illness, with it remaining to be seen if he will be fit enough to start again against Forest. If not then Curtis Jones will likely come back in at number 10, though Harvey Elliott is also an option.

Ryan Gravenberch was afforded a day off on Saturday so will certainly return, with Alexis Mac Allister able to partner him after being left unused against Stanley.

No Nunez as Salah returns

Darwin Nunez will miss the trip to the City Ground through suspension, with Slot likely to make wholesale changes in attack.

The Dutchman actually started four forwards against Accrington, with Diogo Jota in an advanced midfield role behind the Uruguayan as Elliott and Ngumoha started on the flanks. Meanwhile, Chiesa came on at half-time.

Despite lively showings and goals for both the Portuguese and Italian, it would be a surprise if Mohamed Salah, Luis Diaz and Cody Gakpo did not all return to the starting line-up against Forest.

However, given Nunez’s enforced absence, Chiesa could be in line for only his second Premier League appearance - and first since September - if selected amongst the substitutes. Danns is also an option in reserve after also impressing off the bench against Accrington.
