Leeds United maintained their formidable record at Elland Road, recording a 3-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday this weekend. It was their 11th victory in 14 matches on home soil.

Strikes either side of half-time from Manor Solomon, Largie Ramazani and Ao Tanaka helped the Whites claim their first Championship win of 2025. The three points lifted the Whites back to the top of the Championship, three points clear of third-placed Burnley.

Manager Daniel Farke said: "Overall, it was a convincing win and a return back to perfect defensive behaviour. It was a mature performance. It's our 15th clean sheet this season and I expect us to defend well."

Before kick-off, many among the 2,000 travelling Wednesday supporters held aloft flyers in protest at owner Dejphon Chansiri’s turbulent stewardship. Their mood was hardly enhanced by Röhl’s side gifting Leeds a third-minute advantage when the goalkeeper James Beadle made a hash of coming out to collect Joe Rothwell’s through-ball, allowing Manor Solomon to thump home from ten yards.

The captain Barry Bannan’s instant and very public berating of the England Under-21 goalkeeper for his error was understandable, but it probably didn’t help in terms of fostering unity in a visiting side that could have pulled to within a point of the top six with a victory.

Such a scenario looked remote once they were playing catch-up from such an early juncture. In returning to the top of the Championship, Leeds will enjoy few easier assignments than this, their 18th consecutive league game unbeaten in Yorkshire derbies, 13 of which have been wins in an impressive record stretching back five years.

Daniel Farke’s men had to wait until the dying minutes to embellish their margin of victory. The substitute Largie Ramazani added to his growing reputation by turning on the edge of the area to fire a low left-footed shot beyond Beadle with two minutes left.

Deep into stoppage time, the 23-year-old Belgian winger’s volley from 20 yards was deftly redirected into the net from close range by Tanaka.

Crisis, what crisis? Leeds boss Daniel Farke had given his full backing to goalkeeper Illan Meslier after he came under criticism for his mistakes in the 3-3 draw at Hull City in the Championship a fortnight ago.

The German stuck with his number one, as he said he would, and was rewarded with a largely solid display from his keeper.

Leeds were fairly unspectacular for much of Sunday's win but they did what they needed to do and are now unbeaten in their past 18 Yorkshire derbies.

They kept the Owls at arm's length for much of this game, with Farke praising their "perfect defensive behaviour" and Ethan Ampadu and Joe Rodon at centre-back ensured Meslier had little to do.

Leeds moved back to the top of the Championship after easing past Yorkshire rivals Sheffield Wednesday 3-0 at Elland Road.

Manor Solomon's early finish, pouncing on a James Beadle error, saw Leeds take an early lead and Largie Ramazani came off the bench to double the home side's advantage in the 88th minute. A deft flick from Ao Tanaka in stoppage time finished the scoring.

The victory saw Leeds bounce back to winning ways in the league after successive draws and strengthened their automatic promotion bid while also extending their unbeaten run to 10 matches.

Leeds' control of proceedings limited Wednesday to very little in the way of clear-cut chances on under-fire Illan Meslier's goal and the 'keeper was not tested until the hour mark when he got down to keep out Djeidi Gassama.

Despite his early misjudgement that led to Solomon's goal, Beadle managed to make a number of vital stops to prevent the margin from widening. The Wednesday stopper kept out a rampant Daniel James with some vital saves.

Daniel Farke's side widened the gap on Burnley and Sunderland, who played out a draw on Friday night and moved back above Sheffield United, who beat Norwich 2-0 on Saturday afternoon.
