Tottenham take on Elfsborg in the final round of the Europa League league phase later today, where Spurs know three points will confirm their place in the Europa League knockout stages.

A Son Heung-min brace following James Maddison's early opener saw Spurs win 3-2 against Hoffenheim in their last Europa League outing, leaving Ange Postecoglou's side sixth in the Europa League league phase table. The cup competitions have been Spurs' only source of joy in recent weeks, with the Lilywhites winless in their last seven league games, with six of those losses.

Spurs fans will also be keeping an eye out on other results from the final batch of league phase games to see who Postecoglou's side could face in the knockout stages. Once again, Spurs have a huge number of injury problems ahead of the clash with Elfsborg, though Guglielmo Vicario and Micky van de Ven have both returned to training.

So, can Spurs secure their Europa League Round of 16 spot later today? Let's take a look...

We simulated Spurs vs Elfsborg to get a score prediction

To complete this simulation, we used EA FC 25 and updated the squads with the latest injuries and suspensions.

We predict that Spurs could line up in a 4-3-3 formation, with their starting XI as follows: Austin; Porro, Dragusin, Davies, Gray; Bentancur, Bissouma, Bergvall; Kulusevski, Son, Moore.

We predict that the Swedish side could set up in a 3-4-3 formation, with their line-up as follows: Pettersson; Holmen, Buhari, Yegbe; Hedlund, Zeneli, Ouma, Hult; Zeneli, Abdullali, Qasem.

Spurs started on the front foot in north London, and after testing the opposing 'keeper multiple times in the opening stages, they took the lead 14 minutes in when Mikey Moore beat his man on the left, cut inside, and curled a powerful shot into the far corner. It was a Son-esque goal from the youngster, and he should've been 2-0 moments later, but he could only poke Pedro Porro's deep cross past the post at the back stick.

Postecoglou's side were in full control, and in the 44th minute, they doubled their lead.

Rodrigo Bentancur won back possession as Elfsborg were pushing players forward, allowing Spurs to hit the visitors on the break. Son led the attack before sliding a pass into the path of Dejan Kulusevski, and the Swede powered his shot into the top corner from just inside the box to make it 2-0.

An uneventful second half saw Spurs see out the victory, booking their place in the knockout stages of the Europa League.

EA FC 25 predicted final score: Spurs 2-0 Elfsborg

The victory for Spurs ensured that the Lilywhites automatically claimed their spot in the Europa League Round of 16, meaning they avoided two extra games in the Round of 16 playoff round. We also simulated every other result from the final Europa League league phase game week to predict how the final table would look, and who Spurs could face.

These were the results:

  • Rangers 3-2 Union St. Gilloise

  • Roma 2-2 Eintracht Frankfurt

  • Slavia Praha 1-0 Malmo

  • FCSB 0-2 Man United

  • Ajax 1-2 Galatasaray

  • Maccabi Tel Aviv 0-2 Porto

  • Ferencvaros 2-0 AZ

  • Braga 1-3 Lazio

  • Real Sociedad 2-1 PAOK

  • Olympiacos 4-3 Qarabag

  • Lyon 3-0 Ludogorets

  • Dynamo Kyiv 1-1 RFS

  • Midtjylland 1-2 Fenerbache

  • Twente 0-0 Besiktas

  • Athletic Bilbao 2-0 Viktoria Plzen

  • Anderlecht 2-1 Hoffenheim

  • Nice 4-0 Bodo/Glimt

Based on these results, Spurs ended the league phase in fifth, meaning they would meet one of the teams who finished in 11th, 12th, 21st or 22nd in the round of 16. From the simulation, Postecoglou's side would face either FCSB, Real Sociedad, PAOK or Roma in the Round of 16.
