Leeds United's Championship promotion campaign will be put on hold this weekend as they welcome Harrogate Town in the FA Cup on Saturday evening.

Despite drawing their last two matches, Daniel Farke's men remain top of the Championship table with a one-point lead after 26 matches. Recent slip-ups against Hull and Blackburn may prompt Leeds to consider reinforcements in the January transfer window to boost their promotion bid.

But the Whites will also need to consider five major transfer decisions regarding outgoings. Sam Byram, Junior Firpo, and Josuha Guilavogui are all out of contract this summer, while Joe Rothwell and Manor Solomon's loan spells will end.

All five players have featured heavily for Leeds this season which presents a dilemma. Any potential business in January will need to bear in mind that three midfielders and two full-backs are out of contract in the summer.

LeedsLive understands the Whites are not expected to be busy this month in terms of incomings, but their hand could be forced. Tying down some of their out-of-contract players would be a big boost and give them more flexibility to strengthen other areas of the pitch.

Of course, the Whites have no indication of the division they will be playing in next season yet, but if they are promoted to the Premier League, they must be mindful of PSR (Profit and Sustainability Rules).

If Leeds have several holes in their squad, they will need to spend whilst working under financial constraints, potentially limiting how many players they could sign. Top-flight clubs, including Nottingham Forest and Everton, have breached PSR and been handed points deductions, something which could prove fatal to the Whites' chances of survival if they were promoted.

For now, the full focus will be on trying to get out of the Championship. However, with big decisions needing to be made about several players, there must be one eye on where they go in the summer.
