Wellington AFC's match against league leaders Portishead Town was abandoned due to thick fog.

The match was abandoned after the referee blew for half-time five minutes early, hoping the break would improve conditions.

However, as visibility continued to diminish, the game was called off, with Portishead leading 1-0.

Prior to the match, players and officials observed a minute's applause in memory of Norman Rogers, a beloved figure at the club who died before the new year.

Manager Richard Cherry made one change to the squad that previously drew with Street, welcoming back Mark Cornish from suspension, in place of Sam Gleeson.

A notable subplot to the match was the presence of former Wellington defender Jason Quick in the Portishead line-up, creating a sibling rivalry as he faced his brothers, Miles and Jake.

Portishead initially dominated the game, with Wellington's goalkeeper, Jake Viney, making a commendable save from Mitch Osmond after 13 minutes.

Both teams had to make substitutions due to injuries, with Osmond and Wellington's Sam Towler both leaving the pitch.

Portishead took the lead after 25 minutes, capitalising on a cross that was controversially not deemed a foul by Wellington's defence.

The hosts nearly equalised when a header from Tom Stone forced a brilliant save from the Portishead keeper, Ryan Thacker.

However, as the fog thickened, the match's conclusion became increasingly unavoidable.

The game will be rescheduled for a later date.

Wellington's next match will be against Barnstaple Town at the Playing Field on Wednesday, January 22, with kick-off at 7.45pm.
