Football club submit plans to install new floodlights at home ground
A football club have submitted plans to install new floodlights at their home ground.
Hailsham Town Football Club have submitted a planning application to Wealden District Council for the replacement of outdated floodlight lamps at their Beaconsfield ground.
The current floodlighting system consists of six 15-metre-high masts, originally approved in 1989, with additional masts added in 2002.
However, the club says these lights have become inefficient and costly compared to modern alternatives.
The club plans to replace the existing mercury halide lamps with more energy-efficient LED luminaires, which meet the Football Association’s requirements for pitch floodlighting.
The new lights will not be brighter than the current ones, but more focused, with the club’s application stating that the upgrade will "minimise light pollution and any disturbance to nearby properties."
Their energy consumption is also expected to be "significantly reduced."
The new lights will maintain the hours of use specified in the original planning consent, operating between 7am and 10.30pm.
The club's matches are scheduled for weekday evenings and weekends, with the floodlights required in winter for some afternoon matches that extend into the early evening.
Noise impact is not expected to be an issue with the proposed works, as the application solely involves the replacement of the lamps.
Hailsham Town FC was founded in 1885. The club runs several teams, including senior men’s, senior women’s, men’s under-23s, and provides football for children from under six to under 18.
The first team currently plays in the Premier Sports Southern Combination Football League. Admission costs £3 for adults, concessions £1, while accompanied under-12s can enter for free.
