I can forgive boring displays - but what Everton did at Bournemouth was embarrassing
We cannot continue playing football like this and watching football like this in this manner. I can forgive displays that are boring to watch if you’re winning but Everton are not doing that and we’re not setting up to win football matches.
To not have a shot on target at Bournemouth is embarrassing. The players can’t hide behind the manager and they have to take responsibility too of course but unfortunately, you can’t sack all the players and the manager is at the top of the tree.
He keeps talking in the past tense about what happened before he came here and the issues before he joined but he’s been here for two years now and he’s getting paid a handsome amount of money to change that. That’s his job.

This is the best set of players that Sean Dyche has ever had and he’s failing with them. He’s had excuses at other teams when he didn’t have the money but he’s got a lot of international players within this squad and he’s failing to get the best out of them.
The goals against us are just far too easy. We don’t stop crosses and we don’t mark in the box.
The players need to step up. Some of their decision-making this season has been appalling and if it wasn’t for Jordan Pickford, the game at Bournemouth would have been done and dusted by half-time.
His performances this season have been fantastic, but we can’t rely on Jordan week in and week out to come away with a point. We need to put the ball in the net down the other end.
It was a great finish by David Brooks for Bournemouth but the build-up play was far too passive. Nobody was closing down their centre-half, who had all the time in the world to play a long ball; James Tarkowski didn’t block the cross and Vitalii Mykolenko didn’t mark his man. There are too many basic, schoolboy errors leading up to goals.
Dyche is being paid to turn this football club around. We know it’s not going to happen overnight but you’ve got to win games.
We’ve been there with Sam Allardyce when the style wasn’t good but he got points on the board, so you could half forgive that and think over time you could turn those points into good performances. That’s called progression, but we’re not progressing under Dyche, we’re going backwards.
It’s almost non-existent in the final third of the pitch. And it's hard on the fans, who have had to make that nightmare journey there and back to Bournemouth for no reward.
SAME OLD STORY: Chris Beesley's video verdict
Dyche’s press conferences this season, both before and after games, have been really baffling with the comments he keeps coming out with. As I’ve said before, that’s what the Evertonians won’t take as you can’t hoodwink Scousers.
We know we’ve got issues and we’ve given Dyche plaudits for working well through that but that was last season. This season should be all about improvement and developing the players we’ve got and we’ve got more squad depth.
Last season, the manager said he didn’t have enough options to make substitutions, but this season, he hasn’t got that excuse, yet he’s still talking about things from a couple of years ago.
Even the fans’ belief is very low now. Goodison Park has been very quiet and away from home, we’re not expecting to try and win football games. We know how Dyche is going to set up and it’s all about containment.
When you strip everything back, football is supposed to be entertaining and Gary Lineker summed it up on Match of the Day when he admitted that Everton are a hard watch. It’s been a hard watch for a very long time for the Evertonians.
We turn up, week after week, and try and be hopeful, but as soon as we see the starting line-up and the set-up, we know it’s going to be a dire performance. There is no surprise element watching Everton Football Club at this moment in time.
It’s really concerning because we’re turning up at games, just hoping that we’re going to see something, and we’re not. If our Plan A isn’t working, we run out of ideas very quickly.
DEGREE OF INEVITABILITY: Joe Thomas' video verdict
Our ball retention is poor and if you look at all those statistics on Match of the Day and the ones that are being shared online, from shots on target and the opportunities we’re creating, it’s all relegation form.
We’re going to our new stadium next season, but do we want this type of football at Bramley-Moore Dock? Football is about entertainment and it’s about goals.
If you score a couple of goals and get beat, well fair enough, you’ve had a go. But to turn up and not even have a shot on target, people will turn off from that.
When you’re watching the other teams in and around us, they’re having a go and scoring goals. We need to stop making excuses, we’re a lot closer to the relegation zone than we want to be, everyone just wanted this to be a comfortable season.
Last season we had all the issues with the points deductions, but that’s gone now and we’ve got the new ownership in place. We should be full of joy and excited going to games without all the negativity that we had last season that Dyche and the players reacted brilliantly to.
Instead, it feels like we’re going backwards with what is arguably a better squad. Dyche has also had more time to work with these players, a couple of full pre-seasons, and has brought his own players to the football club, but we’re not seeing any improvement.
When you’re down there, you can’t try and lift yourself up with draws. You’ve got to try and score goals to get points on the board.
We had the nil-nils against some of the Premier League’s established powers, which was decent, but you can’t sit back against everyone, week after week, especially at Goodison Park. I wouldn’t say sleepwalking into a relegation battle – we’re in a relegation battle – and Dyche needs to start getting the best out of these players sooner rather than later because it’s going to be a tough slog for the rest of the season.
Cup run can bring light at the end of the tunnel but Blues must take it seriously
We’ve got a difficult game in the FA Cup against Peterborough United because given where we are as a football club, I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a shock. We’ve had lesser teams such as League Two Doncaster Rovers in the Carabao Cup, come to Goodison this season and dictate with the ball.
A cup run is always what we want. Year after year, I keep saying we’ve got to take it seriously and give Evertonians a bit of light at the end of the tunnel and something to look forwards to.
It can be a nice distraction if we do well, but things could flip around if the performance is under par. Whoever gets a chance in the starting line-up needs to show Dyche they want to be part of it and push for a place in the Premier League.
It’s Peterborough’s ‘cup final’ – they’ve got nothing to lose but we’ve got everything to lose. If we win, it’s because we’ll be expected to, but if we lose, it could turn toxic.
Peterborough are going to be full of energy and physical. This is their dream, coming to Goodison Park for the first time in the ground’s final season, they want to make a show of it.
We’ve got to show the same grit and determination as them but also showcase our ability as the Premier League club and puff our chests out a bit more.
