Former Aston Villa star Jack Grealish has released a statement on social media after suffering yet another injury blow while playing for Manchester City.

The 29-year-old playmaker was substituted in the 30th minute against Real Madrid on Tuesday night - moments after having a helping hand in City's opening goal.

Grealish clipped a delightful pass into Josko Gvardiol, who chested the ball down for Erling Haaland to volley into the bottom corner.

Aside from that, Grealish made a positive start to the game and was impressive.

But the unfortunate England international, who was spotted holding his leg on a couple of occasions beforehand, went down on the half-hour mark and was forced off, with Phil Foden replacing him.

It's another bitter pill to swallow for Grealish, who cut an emotional figure after walking off the pitch. Now, the ex-Villa winger has since sent a message to fans on Instagram, delivering an update on his fitness.

Grealish, who has 8.9million followers on the platform, said in a story: "Hopefully the injury isn't too bad and thank you for your support last night. Still all to play for next week," alongside a blue love heart emoji.

Following his £100million transfer from Villa to City in August 2021, Grealish has won several major honours during his time at the Etihad Stadium.

While his overall performances haven't been as eye-catching since he joined City, he has won the Premier League three times, the Champions League once and the FA Cup, as well.

Grealish has scored 16 goals and provided 23 assists in 149 matches for City over the course of his three-and-a-half years in Manchester.

This season, he has directly contributed to five goals in 24 appearances. And, following City's 2-1 win over Leyton Orient on Saturday afternoon, Guardiola set Grealish a challenge.

After assisting Kevin de Bruyne's winner, Guardiola said on Grealish: "I'm really pleased for Jack. Jack has this sense of the street, a player of the street."

Guardiola continued, highlighting Grealish's unique qualities: "Most of the players, for the manager they are so academic; you have to do this, you have to do that. Jack, in the stadiums when the people shout, he's there and he's a fighter and I am really pleased [to have that in City's squad]."
