Former Birmingham City man facing FA misconduct charge after Leeds United comments

Former Birmingham City manager John Eustace is facing a misconduct charge from the Football Association over comments suggesting referee Oliver Langford showed favouritism in the New Year's Day Championship match between his side Blackburn Rovers, and Leeds.

Eustace questioned Langford's decision to award Leeds a late penalty, which was converted by Pascal Struijk to give the hosts an 88th-minute lead, before Blackburn equalised to draw 1-1.

In the post-match press conference, Eustace remarked, "I certainly don’t think we would have got (a penalty) if it was at the other end," and "(Leeds are) a fantastic football club, 36,000 fans, the referee’s always under pressure to give a decision. Last minute at Elland Road, it’s kind of expected."

The FA alleges that Eustace acted improperly by implying bias and questioning the integrity of a match official, and has given him until Monday to respond.

Eustace was relieved of his duties by Blues, despite having positioned the club in the Championship play-offs, as the new regime at St Andrew's moved to install Wayne Rooney as the club's new boss. That proved to be an ill-fated decision.
