A former Manchester United man who made his Football League debut with Carlisle United has made a National League move.

Ex-Blues midfielder Corry Evans has joined Oldham Athletic on a deal until the end of the season.

Experienced Evans has linked up with the Latics after recently leaving Carlisle's next League Two opponents Bradford City.

The former Sunderland and Blackburn Rovers man, 34, joins an Oldham squad that also includes former Brunton Park favourite Joe Garner.

“It’s great to finally get it done, I was in training last week so I’m just really pleased to get it over the line,” Evans told the Latics website.

“The club got in touch to see where I was at and if I wanted to come down, and when I came I could see the potential this club has to offer.

“The stadium is great, the pitch is fantastic so I’m just looking forward to getting started and helping in any way I can."

Evans was on Carlisle's books in the 2010/11 season after joining Greg Abbott's squad on loan from Manchester United.

He made a solitary appearance, in a 1-1 draw at Bristol Rovers in League One in October.

Injury limited the rest of his time at Brunton Park and the Northern Ireland international moved on to Hull City.

Oldham boss Micky Mellon, whose side are fifth in the National League ahead of Saturday's visit of Aldershot Town, said: "Corry is the type of player who will help the group dramatically,” he said.

“He brings with him plenty of experience, he’s a great guy and he comes in improving our midfield options."
