Former Carlisle United striker Elias Sørensen has left the English game after half a season in the Championship.

The forward has left Portsmouth to join Norwegian club Vålerenga.

He has departed Fratton Park for an undisclosed fee, having joined Pompey from Danish club Esbjerg in the summer.

He scored one goal in 13 appearances for John Mousinho's side, only making four league starts.

Speaking on the club website, Mousinho said: "It has been a pleasure working with Eli over the past few months and we wish him all the best for the future.

“It hasn’t quite worked out for him here, but that certainly wasn’t down to a lack of effort on his part.”

The former Newcastle United man was on loan at Carlisle in the first half of the 2019/20 campaign, but he struggled to make an impact and failed to score in 12 outings.

Danish striker Sørensen returned to his homeland with Esbjerg in 2021 and his goalscoring form attracted the attention of Portsmouth three years later.

He has been a team-mate of former Carlisle midfielder at Fratton Park, with Portsmouth currently 21st in the second tier.

He has signed a four-year deal with Norwegian top-flight outfit Vålerenga. "It feels great to be here," said Sørensen.
