Former Chelsea midfielder Oscar has seen his next club confirmed after sealing an emotional exit from Shanghai SIPG. In late 2016, Oscar made the surprise decision to depart the Blues and move to China for a staggering £60million.

The Brazil international departing just a few months into the reign of Antonio Conte and in the middle of the season certainly came as a shock. However, given the fee offered to Chelsea, his lack of a clear role under the Italian and the sizeable salary awaiting him, it was perhaps a great deal for all parties.

Having signed another contract in 2019, Oscar looks to have taken home in the region of £175million having earned £20.7million (€25m) per year for the majority of that spell.

However, after a successful eight years with the Chinese club, in which he scored 77 goals from 248 appearances and won three trophies, Oscar sealed an emotional exit in December. Following his final game, the 33-year-old was captured in tears as he said an emotional goodbye to supporters.

Just over a few weeks on from ending his spell there, Oscar returning to Brazil appeared very likely with Internacional manager Eduardo Coudet openly admitting he wanted him: "Our only goal, the player we are going to try moving forward, is Oscar," he said.

"I want to bring in Oscar. I've already spoken to his manager, he can't stand me anymore. I want Oscar. The board ask me not to talk, but sometimes I talk too much." However, he has instead now been confirmed as the latest new signing for boyhood club Sao Paulo.

He had been linked with a move back to his home country during his stint at Shanghai after making an honest admission in September 2024. "I love Shanghai, but it's just too far away from home for us," he said. "We can't stay here forever.

"My mum is getting older, my sisters are having babies. We want to be closer to home. Wherever I go, it won't be like here. There's no way to change that." A return to Europe was considered possible but that honest claim seemingly confirmed a reunion in Brazil was likely with that now confirmed.
