FORMER Newport County AFC forward Lewys Twamley's eye-catching performances with Merthyr have earned a move to the National League.

The 21-year-old has signed for Yeovil Town after scoring 23 goals in 60 appearances for the Martyrs, who are setting the pace in Southern League Premier Division South.

Twamley, a Wales Under-19s international, came through the ranks at the Exiles and made four appearances in the EFL Trophy but the left footer did not get on in League Two.

The diminutive attacking midfielder had loan spells with Salisbury and Pontypridd before signing for Merthyr, in the seventh tier of the English pyramid, at the end of his County contract.

Twamley is now working his way back up through the levels and will try to take his form into the National League for Yeovil, who are mid-table after coming up as champions of National League South.

He will try to provide an attacking threat for the Glovers alongside well-travelled former County striker Frank Nouble, who is yet to get off the mark this season.

Merthyr, meanwhile, will hope that the exit of Twamley does not hit their hopes of beating rivals Totton to the title.

His exploits came at the same level that earned Oliver Greaves a chance at County after scoring 24 goals in 48 appearances for Mickleover in the Northern division.
