Former favourite Kyle McFadzean looks set to leave Blackburn Rovers 12 months after joining the club from Coventry City where he’d slipped down the defensive pecking order.

The veteran campaigner took the emotional decision to leave the Sky Blues and join Ewood Park on a short-term deal last January before securing a one year deal under manager John Eustace – and former City captain – in the summer for the 2024/25 season.

However, the 37-year-old centre-half has been limited to just a minute from the bench in the Championship and two substitute appearances in the Carabao Cup so far this term, leaving the defender keen to leave to get game time – the same situation and decision he took this time last year.

The Lancashire Telegraph is reporting that McFadzean is expected to leave Rovers this week, with Chesterfield “leading the race” to sign the defender.

Chesterfield, managed by another former Coventry player, Paul Cook, are currently tenth in League Two. And a move to the Proact Stadium would clearly suit McFadzean in terms of location, given that he still lives in his home town of Sheffield.
