Former Hull FC back and BBC Radio Humberside summariser Alan Hunte has urged the club to 'put to bed' the reasons behind Jordan Abdull's release. The Black and Whites have parted company with the half-back, as exclusively reported by Hull Live this Wednesday morning.

Abdull was one of ten new signings made by Hull ahead of the 2025 season and spoke to Hull Live back in November about the excitement of re-joining the club. However, he has now left for a second time, the first being in 2018, with the 28-year-old departing before the start of the season, which begins in Perpignan against Catalans Dragons next month.

The half, who played 54 games for the club in his first spell, has been struggling with his fitness this pre-season, as per an update from head coach John Cartwright to Hull Live last Friday. Ultimately, the club have now parted ways, with Hunte, who played 24 times for Hull in 1998, scoring 13 tries and captaining the side, along with Gary Lester, sharing his views on the station this Wednesday afternoon.

"It’s disappointing," he said. "Coming back to Hull, you would hope that he could realise some things that he didn’t get to the first time around, but with all that said, having raised the bar so high, he has also had the problem of staying fit.

"I think there were a lot of questions that you hoped he could put right in a Black and White shirt because the talent is undoubtedly there. I’m sure all Hull fans are really disappointed that that won’t come to fruition."

Meanwhile, Hull Live understands it was a club decision to part ways. However, Hunte continued: "I think we need to know why (he's been released). Is this down to the club, or is this down to Jordan Abdull? There could be other factors, such as family or circumstance, whatever that may be.

"Obviously, having signed for the club and now leaving, there must have been some negotiations between the two parties as to how they finish this and under what circumstances."

He also explained: "It’s a negative outcome when you sign a player and he doesn’t play for you, but it has not been danced out in public and dragged through the mud. They’ve been grown up about it; I’m presuming in how, when, and what happens with this release. Now Hull have to find a replacement and put it to bed because it’s an unfortunate opening chapter in the 2025 season."

Looking for a swift replacement for Abdull, Hull, as per Hull Live, have put together a huge bid for former half-back Marc Sneyd. The 33-year-old is currently at Salford Red Devils, with the Black and Whites now flexing their muscles to try and lure the player back to the club, who would partner another new signing in Aidan Sezer.

Hunte added: "If the two stories are connected, then you’re exchanging a starter for a starter because they are two top-quality half-backs alongside Aidan Sezer. I wouldn’t foresee all three players being at the same club unless a coach had different ideas on what positions those players play.

"You want a like-for-like or better. Some would say Marc Sneyd is like-for-like, and some would say he is better. I have no doubt some Hull fans would say, ‘Been there, done that, and got the t-shirt’ regarding Marc Sneyd."
