Former Hull FC forward Andre Savelio has found a new club after being released from Super League outfit Huddersfield Giants. The now 30-year-old will link up with another ex-Black and White in Richard Horne, with the player joining Championship club Doncaster.

Savelio saw his time at the Giants end back in October. The West Yorkshire club confirmed his release was in order to focus on his health, with the player playing with a brain condition. However, he was always open about turning out on a part-time basis and has now landed his latest move.

Speaking on his exit from Huddersfield at the time, Savelio said: “The move is on good terms, and I’m going to take some time to look after my personal health and reassess what my options are moving forward.”

Those options have now seen him link up with the Dons, who are gunning for the play-offs under Horne after an encouraging return to the Championship last season. The former Hull half has been with the club for over a decade and is thrilled to get Savelio, who has also played for St Helens and Warrington Wolves during his career, over the line.

Horne said: “Andre has played at the top level for almost the entirety of his career, and we’ve seen before how players with that experience can impact the rest of the boys. Not only that, he’s a big, powerful lad that will contribute to both our attacking plays as well as defence.”

Savelio left Hull at the end of the 2023 season after five seasons with the club. He arrived from Brisbane Broncos in 2019 and has almost 150 Super League appearances to his name.
