Former Hull FC and Hull KR half-back outlines career highlights after retirement call
Former Hull FC and Hull KR half-back Jamie Ellis has announced his retirement from professional rugby league. The 35-year-old played almost 250 games in his career, first playing for the Black and Whites before two spells at the Robins.
In total, he played for nine different clubs, debuting at St Helens in 2009. He also turned out for Swinton Lions, Oldham, York Knights, Leigh Leopards (then Centurions), Huddersfield Giants, and Castleford Tigers, last playing for Oldham, who won the League title, in 2024.
A half by trade, Ellis signed for Hull and played under Peter Gentle in 2012. He made 10 appearances before a mid-season move to Castleford. He first joined Hull KR in 2017, playing 30 games in their promotion season back to Super League, before playing a further eight games for the Robins in 2020.

Writing on his Instagram page, Ellis paid tribute to his family and all those who have supported and featured in his career. "Today I am calling time on my rugby career," he wrote. "For the past 15 years, I am proud to say I have lived out my childhood dream.
"Ever since I started playing rugby at 7 years old all I wanted to do is be a rugby player. I wouldn’t have been able to do this if it weren’t for my mum and dad taking me up and down the country. All the late nights and early mornings would not have been possible without them two, and they have always been my no. 1 supporters!
"All I wanted to do was to make them and my family proud, especially my grandad Tommy, who would travel all over with my dad! Since my kids came along, everything I did was for them, and nothing made me prouder than to see their faces in the stand, and I am so grateful that I got to walk out with them!"
Outlining his favourite career moments, Ellis continued: "I'm gutted my wife only caught a snippet of my career but again grateful she got to see me play. I will be forever proud to have played in a Challenge Cup final at Wembley, traveling to Australia with St Helens and England academy, getting promoted with Hull KR, winning the Northern Rail Cup final with Leigh, and just having some of the best times of my life and memories playing rugby.
"I just want to say a massive thank you to everybody I met in rugby league: all the teams (can’t mention them all; there are too many), players, staff, and fans. I really have made some friends for life and got some of the best memories that I will remember forever!
"I'm looking forward to the next chapter of my life and spending every day with my beautiful wife and kids, and hopefully I can guide my babies towards their own dreams in the future! Signing out."
