Former Liverpool player set for unlikely Anfield reunion as Leicester issue fitness update
It’s a short turnaround for Liverpool with the festive fixtures upon us. The Reds are back in action on Boxing Day evening as they host Leicester City at Anfield (8pm kick-off).
Arne Slot’s men go into the game having put six past Tottenham on Sunday in a 6-3 away win. For Leicester, it was a different story, as they suffered a blow with a disappointing 3-0 home defeat against relegation rivals Wolves.
The result means that the Foxes have now conceded seven goals in their last two games, following a 4-0 loss vs Newcastle the previous match. Manager Ruud van Nistelrooy will be looking to shore up the defence ahead of a daunting trip to Anfield.

But there remains uncertainty over the fitness of one of Leicester’s key players - goalkeeper Mads Hermansen. The Dane has impressed in his first season in the Premier League, but was forced off at half time against Newcastle with a groin injury.
Former Liverpool man Danny Ward was his replacement, with Leicester conceding three goals in the second half. With Hermansen not fit enough to feature against Wolves, Ward again stepped in, but a poor first half performance saw him concede a further three goals.
That prompted boos and then sarcastic cheers from sections of the home fans towards the Welshman for the remainder of the game. Ward was first choice during Leicester’s relegation in the 2022/23 season but would not have been expecting to feature much in the Premier League this term.
Following the game against Wolves, Van Nistelrooy gave an update on Hermansen’s fitness. “Mads is still injured,” he said. “This game came too early for him and we're working hard to get him back as soon as possible.”
If Hermansen isn’t fit to feature against the Reds, then the Leicester boss had a decision to make over his replacement. Jakub Stolarczyk was second choice last season, but has just returned from a long-term injury.
Daniel Iversen was named on the bench against Wolves. Or he could stick with Ward, despite the fan frustration over his performances when called upon, with an unlikely Anfield reunion on the cards.
