Former Manchester United CEO Richard Arnold has taken up a new role within sport following his departure from Old Trafford a little over 12 months ago.

As Sir Jim Ratcliffe and INEOS moved towards the purchase of a 27.7% stake in Manchester United in the latter part of 2023, a number of changes came into effect behind the scenes, with 53-year-old Arnold leaving his role as CEO, replaced in the interim period by Patrick Stewart before current incumbent Omar Berrada was hired after the Ratcliffe deal was concluded.

It brought an end to 16 years at Old Trafford for Arnold, a former accountant with PwC, who spent much of his time with the club as chief commercial officer, credited with playing a major role in growing the commercial revenue at the football club through major deals with the likes of Adidas and Chevrolet, among many others, as well as implementing one of the largest and most successful digital engagement platforms in world sport.

Arnold has returned to the sporting arena and has taken up a role with global CEO advisory firm Teneo, where he will serve as non-executive chairman of its financial advisory sports practice business, also playing a key role in working across Teneo’s broader sports, media and entertainment clients in key markets around the world.

“I am excited by the opportunity to work with Teneo,” said Arnold.

“The world of sports, media and entertainment is one of the most dynamic and fast-growing industries, and Teneo’s unique integrated business model advising clients across reputational, strategic and financial matters provides unrivalled counsel to businesses navigating the challenges and opportunities they face.

“I look forward to working with my new Teneo colleagues around the world.”

Arnold will work across the company’s sports, media and entertainment clients, who include World Rugby, UK sportswear firm Castore and the Ambani family’s Reliance Industries.

“As we continue to build Teneo’s global sports, media and entertainment sector capabilities, we are delighted to welcome Richard Arnold to the firm,” said Paul Keary, CEO of Teneo.

“Richard is one of the most highly respected names in sports and brings significant expertise and experience to our clients.

“Given the record levels of investment in the sports, media and entertainment industry, we have significant ambitions to further expand Teneo’s capabilities in this space.”
