Amanda Staveley has issued a message to Newcastle United supporters amid recent takeover links with Tottenham Hotspur.

The 51-year-old, along with her husband Mehrdad Ghodoussi, helped broker the Saudi-led takeover of Newcastle back in 2021. Both became directors and minority co-owners of the club and played a key role in appointing Eddie Howe as manager in November that year.

After three almost three years at St James' Park, it was announced last summer the pair were to sever ties. In the weeks and months that followed, reports emerged indicating Staveley wants to buy a minority stake in Tottenham and has held talks with Qatari investors.

A takeover is yet to materialise and more recent reports suggest she will take on an advisory role with the Saudi Arabian Football Federation after it was confirmed at the end of last year they will host the 2034 FIFA World Cup. She will not take on a formal position, but her experience and contacts means she will be a valuable consultant ahead of the tournament.

Amid strong links with a Premier League rival in Spurs, Staveley issued a message to Newcastle supporters following their 2-0 triumph over Arsenal in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final tie earlier this week. "I just wanted to say how much I appreciate all the comments - I read everyone and feel incredibly humbled by the love and support from everyone," she wrote on Instagram.

"I miss St James’s a great deal and will most definitely see you all soon. Big thank you and a huge well done to the Newcastle team on their brilliant result in the first leg of the Carabao Cup!

"I’ve no doubt they will go on to do just as well in the next match. Huge congratulations to Eddie [Howe] and the entire squad."
