Former NFL Rules VP Denies Rumors of a Conspiracy to Get Taylor Swift and Chiefs in Super Bowl
In a spot on SiriusXM Radio, Dean Blandino said his own brother has told him that the league is “rigged” and referenced the pop singer's impact on the NFL
Even family members of those closest to the game are calling into question the Kansas City Chiefs’ season-long success.
Dean Blandino, the NFL’s former vice president of officiating and current rules analyst on Fox, said his own brother has told him that the league is “rigged” and that the Taylor Swift Effect is in full force.
“My brother is like, ‘They want Taylor Swift at the Super Bowl,’ ” Blandino said in a guest spot on SiriusXM Radio on Tuesday, Jan. 28. “One-hundred and fifty million people are gonna watch the Super Bowl regardless of Taylor Swift being there. Like enough, stop.”
Bladino added, “[He says] the league is rigged and that I can’t say anything about it. I say, ‘Listen, hey, I think if there was a script, I think the head of officiating would be pretty important in that process and no one ever invited me in the room.’ ”

All of which has come after fans — and even players — have criticized officials for making several controversial calls during the Chiefs’ game against the Houston Texans the week earlier.
Houston received penalties on two separate occasions for contact with Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, which helped extend the Chiefs’ drives, and helped propel them to a 23-14 victory.
One fan wrote on X (formerly Twitter) in response to one penalty, “These refs are ridiculous… How is a flag on the Texans?? Mahomes slid way too late. Awful.” Another shared a photo of several referee flags on the ground and joked, “NFL refs when Patrick Mahomes gets touched.”
Even Lil Wayne has waded into the controversy.
“I hate the cheating azz Chiefs,” the Green Bay Packers fan, 42, wrote following the Jan. 18 game.
As far as the Chiefs' signal-caller is concerned, it's all part of playing football.
“I‘ve kind of learned that no matter what happens during the game, that something’s going to come out about it if you win and you continue to win, so I don’t really pay attention to it,” Mahomes, 29, said on his weekly guest spot on local radio on Tuesday, Jan. 21.
“I mean, obviously I’ve been on both sides of it as far as how I felt the calls were made, but at the end of the day, man, those guys are doing their best to make the best calls and keep it to where the players are making the plays in the game. And that’s what decides the outcome.”
