Former Reading goalkeeper coach, James Bittner, has joined League One rivals Bristol Rovers after a short spell in Yorkshire with Barnsley.

The 43-year-old spent four years with the Royals between 2018 and 2022, working with the first-team for the final three of those four.

Moving on after Tony Warner arrived alongside Paul Ince and Alex Rae, the former shot stopper went on to work with the Tykes under Darrell Clarke from 2023 until 2025.

He now moves to the Memorial Stadium, linking up with Iñigo Calderón's relegation-battling Pirates.

“It’s great to be here at Bristol Rovers,” Bittner told the club site. “Rovers is a Club I’ve known about for a long time and, in my eyes, it’s a bit of a sleeping giant. It’s a Club that has huge potential and I’m excited to be part of that moving forward.

“It’s obviously been a manic few days in terms of the goalkeepers at Bristol Rovers. We have a new group to work with and I’m brand new as well. It’s a fresh start for everyone and that has a lot of benefits to it. We have a good group of young goalkeepers who are all hungry to learn and improve, so it’s an exciting time for all of us.”
