Former Reading coaches Nigel Adkins and Andy Crosby have been reunited for a 'short-term period' at League Two Tranmere Rovers.

Adkins, who managed Reading between 2013 and 2014, has been in charge of his hometown team since 2023.

Languishing in 19th in League Two, the former Southampton and Scunthorpe United chief has enlisted the help of his trusted former assistant to help out at Prenton Park on a short-term basis.

Crosby was Adkins' number two at Scunthorpe, Southampton, Reading, Sheffield United and Hull City before joining Port Vale with Darrell Clarke.

Clarke, now in charge of Barnsley, took a period of leave in 2021/22 due to a bereavement and Crosby took over in the interim, winning promotion into League One via the play-offs.

The 51-year-old took over on a permanent duty in 2023 but won only 14 of his 44 matches and was sacked as the Valiants dropped back to League Two.

Upon being reunited with his trusted coach, Adkins commented: "Andy is someone I have worked successfully with before in the Premier League, Championship and League One and I’m sure he will complement the excellent coaches we already have at Tranmere Rovers.”
