Former Reading midfielder Charlie Adam has become the latest managerial casualty in the EFL, sacked as manager of Fleetwood Town following defeat at Barrow on Saturday.

The former Scotland international spent the 2019/20 campaign with the Royals, ending his English playing career at the SCL Stadium.

Taking charge of the Cod Army, the Blackpool favourite was in his first touchline role and remained popular despite being unable to keep the club in League One last season.

Without a win since November 9 this season, Fleetwood sit 18th in League Two at the time of his departure and exited the FA Cup in Round One following defeat to Ruben Selles' Reading.

Owner Jamie Pilley said: “I’d like to personally thank Charlie for his commitment and professionalism over the last 12 months.

“He’s been a pleasure to work with but recent results meant we felt a change was necessary.

“I wish him well for the future.”

Adam is the latest in a long line of managerial casualties in recent weeks, with the likes of Oxford United, Millwall and Bristol Rovers opting for a change in recent weeks.
