Former Reading midfielder Charlie Adam has been appointed Set Piece Coach at Premier League Everton.

The Scotland international ended his playing career in England with the Royals, making 27 appearances in 2019/20, before retiring with boyhood side Dundee.

Previously a Premier League regular with Liverpool, Blackpool and Stoke City, the 39-year-old stepped into management with Fleetwood Town in 2023/24.

Unable to keep the Cod Army in League One last season, Adam was sacked in December with the Fylde Coast side unable to mount a serious attempt at bouncing back to the third tier.

He was also knocked out of the FA Cup at the first round stage in Reading, losing 2-0 at the SCL Stadium.

However, David Moyes' return to Goodison Park has seen Adam given his first role back since his departure from Highbury, moving to the blue half of Merseyside as Set Piece Coach.

This comes the same day as veteran Alan Irvine being appointed Moyes' assistant as he starts his second spell with the side.

Speaking on the appointment, Moyes said: "Charlie is someone I have had several chats with since rejoining the Club. He will be helping with set-piece situations, an area he excelled in as a player and one I believe he can really help us with now as a coach."

Director of Football, Kevin Thelwell, added: "We're really pleased with the two new additions to David's coaching team.

"I've had an excellent relationship with Alan since arriving at the Club. He's been a regular at our games already this season and his successful history with Everton puts him in a great place to hit the ground running.

"We're also pleased to welcome Charlie to what is a new role for us. Set piece coaches are becoming increasingly common in top-level football, such is their importance, and we're looking forward to working with Charlie.”
