Former Taunton Titans' players turned out in force to mark 150 years for the club
Taunton Rugby Club’s former players turned out in force on Saturday to celebrate the club’s 150th year when they attended the 2025 Former Players Lunch that took place ahead of the Titan’s home game against Luctonians.
Before the game Neil Symons the club President welcomed the 300 guests who enjoyed a top class carvery lunch in the clubhouse and said that 2025 was a special year for Taunton Rugby Club.
“Who’d have thought that back in 1875 when those guys set the club up that 150 years later we would still be going strong, but the way the club is now is part of that legacy and its now our turn to carry on with that to try ensure that Taunton RFC is still here for the next 150.”
The president thanked everyone who had helped Taunton RFC become the club that they now are and in particular welcomed match sponsors Summerfield Homes and ball sponsors Monkton Building and Developments.
The assembled company stood for a minutes silence in memory of Guy Triggol, John Williams, Ted Goodwin, Ted Schofield and Spencer Larkman who have sadly passed away during the previous 12 months.
The Chairman of Luctonians thanked Taunton RFC for their warm welcome and said how impressed he was to see so many guests enjoying the pre-match carvery.
Sixteen former Taunton RFC captains attended the lunch including John Beer who skippered the side in 1963.
Following lunch the former players joined over 900 spectators to watch Taunton Titans play against Luctonians at the end of which it was the home side who ran out the well deserved winners much to the delight of all present.
After the match a presentation was made by the Club President to Isaac Dalton who was making 150 appearance for the Titans.
The Taunton RFC 150th Anniversary Dinner will be taking place on Saturday, May 17, at Veritas Park.
Tickets for this very special 150th anniversary event that will include a five course dinner, guest speakers, a silent auction and commemorative gift are priced at £75 each and are available from functions@tauntonrfc.co.uk but space is limited.
