'Formidable' Leeds United wow national media as four-word chant at Coventry City speaks volumes
Leeds United edged a step closer to realising their Premier League dream as they opened up a five point gap at the top of the Championship table on Wednesday night, thanks to a win over Coventry City.
The Whites went into the game at the Coventry Building Society Arena expecting a challenge with Frank Lampard’s team searching for their fifth Championship win in a row. But first half goals from Joel Piroe and Jayden Bogle put the game to bed after just 26 minutes.
Those goals proved to be the difference between the sides as Daniel Farke’s men picked up a huge three points in their aim of returning to the Premier League at the second attempt.

Leeds sit at the top of the Championship table, five points clear of second-placed Burnley. There is also a five point gap to third-placed Sheffield United, but the Blades do have a game in hand, as do Sunderland in fourth position, although the Black Cats are eight points behind.
The win over Coventry was watched by several members of the national media. Here’s a look at what they had to say about the result and performance, as well as Leeds’ promotion prospects.
Daily Mail, Aadam Patel
By the final whistle, the Leeds fans were chanting ‘Stop crying, Frank Lampard’ in reference to the 2019 spygate scandal. Lampard cupped his ears to the away end then held up his fingers to show the 4-2 scoreline that his Derby side beat Leeds with in the play-offs that season…
…Here, his passive side were no match for the league leaders with Daniel Farke’s men putting the game to bed early on as they capitalised on two mistakes through goals from Joel Piroe and Jayden Bogle.
That it only finished two-nil was due to Leeds's wastefulness after. Nevertheless, victory saw them go five points clear and they are starting to have breathing space at the summit.
It was here last April where their late season collapse which cost them automatic promotion, started. This time around, Leeds, who are unbeaten since November, are looking formidable.

Rampant Leeds United stretched their lead at the top of the Championship to five points as they outplayed Coventry City.
Frank Lampard's hosts had won their previous four games - and another victory would have lifted the 11th-placed Sky Blues level on points with West Brom in the last of the play-off places.
But they were no match for a Leeds side who would have won by more but for wasteful finishing as Daniel Farke's men stretched their unbeaten run in all competitions to 14 games.

First-half strikes from Joel Piroe and Jayden Bogle helped Leeds stretch their advantage at the top of Championship to five points with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Coventry.
The Whites were a class above Frank Lampard’s side who came into the game on the back of four successive wins.
Coventry could only blame themselves for being two goals down at the break when Piroe’s expertly taken finish made Ellis Simms pay for his mistake before Bogle was handed a gift by goalkeeper Oliver Dovin.
Leeds could have had more but for Dovin, who denied Manor Solomon, Piroe and Largie Ramazani, as the league leaders cruised to a sixth successive clean sheet in all competitions and extended their unbeaten run to 14 games.

Leeds cruised into a two-goal lead at half-time without barely having to break a sweat. The first came after Ellis Simms' stray pass found its way right to Manor Solomon, who then teed up Piroe to slide his 13th of the season into the back of the net.
The second was helped by another error, however it came after fine work from Bogle. The right-back drove from deep into the Coventry box, before being gifted the ball back via Oliver Dovin's spill, and he took the gift to finish.
Both sides had chances in the second half, but goalkeepers came out on top. At one end Dovin made some fine saves to deny Piroe, Solomon and Largie Ramazani.
While at the other Illan Meslier, who has had some critics this season, made two sensational saves. The first was particularly brilliant as he got down low to his left to deny Ellis Simms.
