Will Forrester hopes that Wanderers can give their supporters some Christmas cheer starting with the visit of Barnsley.

There were positives to take from the trip to Wycombe on Friday night as Ian Evatt’s men defended resiliently to claim a point against the league leaders.

Attention now turns to the Tykes, who sit a point below Bolton but have played a couple more games at this stage.

Forrester admitted that Wanderers have lacked consistency at times this season and is determined to help put that right heading into the final fixtures of 2024.

“We have put in a good performance and then maybe dropped below the standards which we have set ourselves,” he told The Bolton News.

“Now, we need to just get that consistency back and hopefully give the fans something to cheer about.

“We need them more than ever to stick with us. Sometimes, we go a goal down and need them more. I think they can play a massive part for the rest of the season, which I know that they will do.”

When asked if the squad had been set a points target over the festive period, the defender replied: “We just take each game as it comes.

“We obviously want to try and win every single game, we are Bolton Wanderers so we shouldn’t be where we are.

“We just take each game as it comes and look to try and win every one. We will try to do that over the Christmas period and into the New Year.”

The Whites showed their inner steel at Adams Park to deal with Wycombe’s direct threat, even if it didn’t look like their usual brand of football.

Forrester hailed his team-mates for adapting to the challenge against the Chairboys and is determined to keep getting points on the board as Bolton look to climb the table.

“That was not really us,” he reflected. “We obviously like to have a lot of the ball, but you come to places like that and have to adapt the way that you play, and we did that.

“I don’t think I have ever played so many long balls! I think it was needed, we have to adapt to what the game gives us and we did that really well.

“We did a lot of work in the week on defending the box and second balls because that is where they are most dangerous.

“They are probably one of the biggest teams in the league so they are a threat from set-pieces, which they always are.

“They have big Caleb (Taylor) and (Joe) Lowe, land of the giants! The lads did really well blocking them and letting the zone lads go and head the ball.”
