Manchester United desperately need to be active in the January transfer window to save their disappointing season.

The Reds have endured a miserable campaign so far, first under Erik ten Hag, who was unable to arrest United's decline before being sacked in October. His replacement, Ruben Amorim, has struggled to get to grips with the huge job at Old Trafford, which has seen five previous permanent managers fail.

Signs of life emerged during Sunday's rousing 2-2 draw at rivals Liverpool, and United will have been buoyed at the news of Amad's contract extension.

But no one at M16 will be under any illusions about the scale of change that needs to take place. New additions in January will be difficult due to United's PSR constraints, but player sales will boost their position.

One notable name who could very well depart this month is academy graduate Marcus Rashford, whom the Reds are willing to sell. Rashford's departure would significantly improve United's PSR situation due to his homegrown status, meaning a sale would represent pure profit.

The 27-year-old has rejected three offers from Saudi Pro League clubs because he prefers to play in a top European league. Borussia Dortmund, AC Milan and Juventus have all been linked.

Another potential departure is Casemiro. The ageing Brazilian midfielder is being linked with a move to Saudi Arabia, with it said that he could be available for less than £25million in January.

Toby Collyer is another midfielder who could depart, with the 21-year-old open to a move to a Championship club this month if a suitable offer emerges.

In terms of potential new additions, the loan signing of Paris Saint-Germain striker Randal Kolo Muani may be a shrewd move. The striker has struggled to make an impact in Paris but scored 26 goals in 50 appearances for Eintracht Frankfurt.
