It has been a difficult second season for Ange Postecoglou at Tottenham. The Lilywhites are 11th in the Premier League table at Christmas, having lost eight of their 17 matches so far.

The latest of those was a 6-3 drubbing at the hands of league leaders Liverpool at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday. Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz scored twice, with Dominik Szoboszlai and Alexis Mac Allister grabbing the other two.

James Maddison, Dejan Kulusevski and Dominic Solanke scored the goals as Spurs twice threatened a comeback, but it was truthfully never on the cards, with Liverpool by far the better team on the day.

Tottenham have been beset by injuries for much of the campaign, but several poor performances have led to question marks over Postecoglou's position at the helm. He did not help himself at the beginning of the campaign by insisting he always wins things in his second season.

That still may be the case, with Spurs in the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup and on track to qualify for the knockout stages of the Europa League with two league phase games to go.

But that defeat to Liverpool has led to odds being slashed over the Australian being sacked by chairman Daniel Levy. Prior to the weekend Postecoglou was 14/1 to be the next manager sacked in the Premier League.

Following that 6-3 reverse, the 53-year-old is now just 3/1 to be the next manager sacked, according to Betfair. He is only behind West Ham boss Julen Lopetegui in the betting now.

Betfair spokesman Sam Rosbottom said: “Following Tottenham’s 6-3 defeat against Liverpool on Sunday, Ange Postecoglou is now the 3/1 second-favourite to be the next Premier League manager to leave their role, having previously been 14/1 to go next."

There are four big names in the frame to arrive at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, should Postecoglou bite the bullet. Former Chelsea boss Graham Potter is the 2/1 overwhelming favourite with Eddie Howe at 9/1 and Kieran McKenna and Andoni Iraola both at 10/1.
