Frank Lampard gives 'special' verdict as Coventry City secure first win in Swansea for 75 years
Frank Lampard described Coventry City’s first win in Swansea for 75 years as a “complete performance” topped by a “special” goal.
Ellis Simms gave the Sky Blues an early lead in South Wales before a wonderful improvised 40-yard strike from Brandon Thomas-Asante that lobbed the goalkeeper put the visitors on course for the full three points just before the break.
“It was a very complete performance, and other than a couple more goals to make it feel even more comfortable because although it was comfortable, 2-0 is never always done,” said the City head coach, reflecting on the three points and clean sheet which extends the club’s run to four victories in the league and leaves them just three points off the play-off places.

“But everything about the performance, on and off he ball, was good. We created chances and I thought defensively we were absolutely spot on today, all over the pitch from the top end, the pressing, in the middle of the pitch and the compact nature of it, second balls – all those things that get you a win away from home, we did.”
Commenting on Thomas-Asante’s wonder strike, the City boss said: “Instinctive that no-one else in the stadium saw, probably, or thought that he would take on and he did that and had the quality of the technique and execution of it to score. It’s a really, really special goal and I am delighted for him because that will help his confidence. As long as he keeps his feet on the ground, and I told him that afterwards, told not to start flicking it and all those things.
“He has to keep doing all the great things he’s doing, all the basics but that goal is stand-out and he deserves to have a big smile on his face tonight.”
