Frank Lampard keeps powder dry as Coventry City prepare to navigate final days of the transfer window
Frank Lampard is keeping his powder dry on transfers as Coventry City navigate the final few days of the January window.
So far the Sky Blues have made one new signing with the arrival experienced Swansea midfielder Matt Grimes – a ready-made talented Championship performer who will clearly enhance the club’s chances of a second half surge up the table.
In terms of outgoings, two have gone out with striker Fabio Tavares joining League One Burton Albion on loan for the remainder of the season, following the departure of Kai Andrews to Scottish Premier side Motherwell, also on loan. Lampard has been linked with a number of players this month, including loan options from his former club, Chelsea.

Asked if there are any more new faces coming in before Monday’s transfer deadline, the head coach sat on the fence, saying: “I haven’t got anything more but we’ll see.”
Pressed on the issue, he added: “I’m genuinely very happy with where we’re at. We’re very happy with the addition (of Matt Grimes) and we will see how we go. I know you probably don’t ever believe me, but there’s nothing absolutely imminent with what we’re thinking. I’m thinking of what can I doing in these next three or four games in front of me with the players that we’ve got.”
Free agent Jamie Paterson is currently training with the club and has made a good impression, with Lampard having already spoken about the 33-year-old forward in glowing terms, while the City boss is also looking forward to leading scorer Haji Wright and wide man Ephron Mason-Clark returning from injury.
“I want to get the players fit because they’re big and important players from me,” he said. “It’s really clear and at that point then we can go, ‘yeah let’s push on for the run-in.’
“So in these the next few days I’m very calm about it and I’m not banging on anyone’s door asking for new players. We’re happy with what we’ve got.”
